The Toronto Blue Jays could be the big winners this offseason.
Toronto has already signed Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce to bolster its pitching staff, but the team has yet to sign a hitter. However, the Blue Jays are linked to Bo Bichette and Kyle Tucker, although some have thought it’s hard to sign both.
Yet, MLB insider Christopher Kline of FanSided predicts the Blue Jays will re-sign Bichette to a major deal.
“Toronto has come in second for so many big names in recent years, but last season’s success dramatically alters the Blue Jays’ reputation,” Kline wrote. “All that is to say, Bo Bichette definitely wants to continue his partnership with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and reach the mountaintop with the only franchise he knows. If the offer is remotely competitive, the Blue Jays feel like overwhelming favorites here.”
Along with re-signing Bichette, Kline predicts the Blue Jays will also sign Tucker to have an A+ offseason.
“Kyle Tucker visited the Blue Jays’ facility outside Tampa ahead of the Winter Meetings, per FanSided’s Robert Murray. Cease, Bichette and Tucker would be quite the haul for Toronto, and while it may seem like a bridge too far on paper, the Blue Jays are the class of the American League and backed by ownership and management of equal ambition. …
“The door is swung wide open for the Blue Jays to land the plane with this offseason’s top prize. Tucker fits seamlessly into the Blue Jays’ offensive identity, and he’d address a direct need in the outfield.”
If Toronto does sign both Bichette and Tucker, it would be a great offseason for the Blue Jays. It would also make the Blue Jays one of the favorites to win the World Series.
Blue Jays Going All-In
Toronto made it to the World Series last season and lost in Game 7 to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
After going on a deep run, Toronto appears to be going all-in, especially with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. signed to a long-term deal.
The Blue Jays already have one of the top rosters in baseball, and MLB insider Jeff Passan said the team is going all-in.
“Toronto, long mocked for its failures in free agency, is now a destination for players enthralled by the brand of baseball the Blue Jays play as well as the deep pockets of ownership,” Passan wrote. “If you’re going to spend $210 million on Cease, that’s a sign. It’s all-in time, and opportunistic maneuvering would pay huge dividends for Toronto.”
Passan believes Toronto is ready to spend money and wants to bring a championship north of the border.
Toronto Had a Productive Meeting With Tucker
The Blue Jays met with Tucker at their spring training facility.
At the Winter Meetings, manager John Schneider confirmed the visit happened and said it was a productive meeting.
“We sat upstairs for about an hour, an hour-and-a-half, talked through kind of where the organization is, where the organization is heading, both from a team, roster-building standpoint, from an ownership standpoint, and he talked baseball. It was pretty cool,” Schneider said to Sportsnet. …
“It was very productive. Again, great, great player. And it’s not a surprise his skillset fits exactly what we’re doing. So, we’ll see where the next couple (of) weeks lead.”
Tucker is a four-time MLB All-Star.
