The 2025 campaign has been a complete mess for the New York Giants. Through 13 games, they have just a 2-11 record, and several guys have already lost their jobs as a result of the team’s struggles. Head coach Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Shane Bowen have been fired in recent weeks, and it seems like more heads could roll before all is said and done.
Somehow, one guy who still has his job is general manager Joe Schoen. Despite making a slew of roster moves that have backfired in recent years, the Giants have stuck by Schoen, even with the team finding a way to reach new lows this year. And while the team may be sticking by Schoen, New York fans have made their opinion of the divisive general manager very clear in a recent poll.
Giants Fans Overwhelmingly Want Joe Schoen to Get Fired
Schoen took over as the Giants’ general manager in 2022, with Daboll being brought in to be the team’s head coach the same year. While the team enjoyed a successful season in 2022, making a run to the divisional round of the playoffs, things quickly went south for the team, leading to where we currently are in 2025.
While Daboll got the short end of the stick already, you can make a serious argument that the position New York finds itself in is due in large part to Schoen’s poor decision-making. His most costly decision saw him invest in Daniel Jones instead of Saquon Barkley, and we all know how that has played out for the team.
Schoen appears to have hit on draft picks like Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo, but there are so many holes across the rest of the roster that it almost doesn’t matter. To this point, New York hasn’t shown any desire to move on from Schoen, but in a recent poll conducted by The Athletic, they found that over 88% of Giants fans want the team to fire Schoen and find a new general manager.
“88.3 percent of the 5,177 respondents have no interest in letting Schoen run things in 2026 after another 2-11 start to a season,” Charlotte Carroll wrote for The Athletic. “That’s up from 69.3 percent of respondents who didn’t want Schoen back in 2025.”
Should the Giants Fire Joe Schoen?

Schoen cannot be the lone guy shouldering the blame for the Giants’ recent woes, but he’s certainly played a part in leading New York to where it currently finds itself. If Daboll is going to get fired, it feels like only a matter of time until Schoen follows him out the exit door. A full-scale rebuild is likely going to be needed, and Schoen has proven time and again that he’s not the guy for the job.
Whether or not the Giants agree with that train of thought, though, remains to be seen. They have stuck by Schoen far longer than anyone could have imagined, and again, they haven’t seemed all that inclined to move on from him to this point. For many fans, the decision appears to be obvious, and yet, there’s still a decent chance Schoen will still be in town when the 2026 campaign rolls around.
