Two Philadelphia Eagles players have been fined by the NFL for unnecessary roughness during their Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.
On Saturday, the league announced that tight end Cameron Latu was fined $4,666 for a helmet-related violation in the first quarter with 3:22 remaining. Safety Andre’ Sam was fined $4,741 for a similar helmet violation at the start of overtime.
The Eagles also confirmed on Saturday that they have elevated Sam from the practice squad for Sundayâs game game against the Las Vegas Raiders. This marks the third time this season that Sam has been elevated, which means the team will need to place him on the active roster for him to play again in 2025.
A rookie free agent signing out of LSU in 2024, Sam spent his rookie season on the practice squad and made his NFL debut in the Week 14 victory over the Carolina Panthers. He was previously elevated for games against the Chicago Bears and Chargers, appearing in 19 snaps exclusively on special teams. The 5-foot-10, 194-pound Sam adds depth at safety behind Reed Blankenship, Sydney Brown, and Marcus Epps.
The Eagles (8-5) fell to the Chargers (9-4) in overtime, losing 22-19.
Very Poor Performance for Jalen Hurts
In a chaotic Monday night matchup, Chargersâ Tony Jefferson intercepted Jalen Hurts at the 1-yard line in overtime, sealing a messy victory over the struggling Eagles. Hurts threw four interceptions as the defending Super Bowl champions suffered their season-worst third consecutive loss, dropping to 8-5.
Hurts finished 21 of 40 for 240 yards with four interceptions. Early in the game, he had two turnovers on a single play in a wild first-quarter sequence: he was intercepted, then fumbled, with DaâShawn Hand initially picking off Hurts but then fumbling himself. Hurts recovered the ball only to fumble again, with Troy Dye scooping it up to give the Chargers possession.

âWe lost the game,” Hurts said postgame, “and I didnât play well enough to help us to win the game.”
On a Positive Note, Saquon Barkley Returned to Form
Saquon Barkley gave Philadelphia its first lead with a 52-yard touchdown to open the fourth quarter, putting the Eagles ahead 16-13. Barkley ran for 122 yards on 20 carries â just the second time this season heâs topped 100 yards, following a 150-yard performance against the Giants on Oct. 26. He had also totaled 78 combined yards in losses to the Cowboys and Bears.
The Eagles committed five turnovers and were flagged for six penalties, costing them 53 yards.
âI thought the defense did a lot of good things and the offense moved the ball against a really good defense, but we didnât finish,â Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said. âWe kicked a lot of field goals and had some turnovers. Itâs hard to beat a team on the road when youâre not finishing drives and getting three points. I have to put that on myself.â
