A 14-year-old girl from Chicago was killed Saturday morning in a car crash on a Springfield highway.
The girl, whose name has not been released, was the passenger in a car involved in a multi-vehicle crash on I-55, according to the Sangamon County coroner’s office.
The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes at milepost 98 near the I-72 interchange and the Clear Lake exit, according to the Illinois State Police.
All southbound lanes were closed near the crash until 7:10 p.m. Saturday.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner. The cause of the crash has not been released. The Sangamon County coroner and the Illinois State Police are investigating.
