Browns’ Myles Garrett Reveals Injury News Amid Sack Record Pursuit

For Browns star pass-rusher Myles Garrett, 2025 has been something of a bizarre year. It started with a trade demand nearly 12 months ago, a demand Cleveland brushed off and convinced Garrett to drop by offering him a whopping four-year, $160 million contract, making him the highest paid defensive player in league history. He has proven worth it, as he is in hot pursuit of the all-time NFL sack record, which stands at 22.5 by Michael Strahan.

With 1.5 sacks on Sunday, Garrett now has 21.5 sacks on the year, putting him in the shadow of the record.

But Garrett managed those sacks while playing through some obvious pain, as he was frequently grimacing and pointing to his thigh throughout Sunday’s game against the Bears, which ended with another disappointing showing as the Browns lost, 31-3. It turns out, Garrett was playing with a hip injury and is likely to be dealing with it for the remainder of his sack-record chase.

Myles Garrett Played Through a Hip Injury

After the game, Garrett was asked about playing through pain despite an obvious blowout loss in Chicago, and yet another Browns loss that drops the team’s record to 3-11, tied for fourth-worst in the NFL. Again, it’s been a weird 2025 for Garrett–he’s the anchor of one of the best defenses in the NFL, yet plays for one of the worst teams in the league.

Garrett pointed out that he rarely misses a game for injury–he has sat out only twice in the last five years.

“That’s how I always am. I am gonna play through pretty much anything,” Garrett said. “But I tweaked my hip or something in that area, so I was feeling that for the rest of the game. But, like I said, going to continue to push through because we still have got something to play for. As long as there’s games on the schedule, I am going to go out there and try to win.”

Browns Got Big 3rd-Down Plays From Myles Garrett

It was pointed out, too, that both of his sacks, a solo sack early in the second quarter and a split sack in the fourth quarter, came with the Browns lined up for third-down plays against the Bears. The first one yielded a missed field goal, and the second led to a Bears punt.

Third downs are frequently passing downs, making them ideal for a player of Garrett’s talent.

“Playmakers make plays,” Garrett said. “Big-time moments, you gotta have your big-time players to go out there and shine. It makes it easier when great coaches, hell of a coordinator is calling those kinds of plays and allowing me to get freed up or at least dealing with less of a chip, or holding the QB to one pump and then looking around for his second option.

“Shout out to them but also the guys next to me. They make it a lot easier as well.”
