
Legendary director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead inside their Brentwood home Sunday afternoon, according to TMZ. The couple died on Sunday, Dec. 14, after first responders were called to the residence to provide medical aid and discovered them deceased.
Multiple sources later confirmed to People that their son, Nick Reiner, was involved, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the loss that has shaken Hollywood.
GettyNBC Los Angeles reported that two people, a man, 78, and a woman, 68, were found dead inside the Brentwood home owned by the actor and director. A significant police presence was seen at the property as news of the discovery spread, prompting public concern about the iconic filmmaker and his family.
Where Rob Reiner Lived in Brentwood
Reinerâs Brentwood mansion is located on Chadbourne Avenue in Los Angeles, near Sunset Boulevard.
According to a 1991 Los Angeles Times report, Reiner and Michele purchased the home from Norman Lear, the legendary producer behind âAll in the Family,â the sitcom that launched Reiner to fame as Michael âMeatheadâ Stivic.
Lear had owned the property since 1972 and initially listed it for $6.5 million. The sale ultimately closed for $4.75 million, the Times reported.
The New Englandâstyle residence spans roughly 10,000 square feet and includes six bedrooms, six bathrooms, two staff quarters, and sits on just under an acre of land.
The property was described as featuring a swimming pool, pool pavilion, and landscaped gardens. A tennis court on a lot across the street was also reportedly included in the sale. Built in 1936, the home was once owned by Henry Fonda before being sold to actor Paul Henreid. During Learâs ownership, a screening room and guest suite were added.
A Hollywood Career That Defined Generations
Reiner was one of Hollywoodâs most influential directors, with a filmography that includes âThis Is Spinal Tap,â âStand by Me,â âThe Princess Bride,â âWhen Harry Met Sallyâ¦,â âMisery,â and âA Few Good Men.â He first became a household name as Mike Stivic on âAll in the Family,â which ran for nine seasons.
Born in the Bronx in 1947, Reiner was the son of comedy legend Carl Reiner and actress and singer Estelle Lebost.
He met Michele while directing âWhen Harry Met Sallyâ¦,â and the couple married in 1989. They shared three children. Reiner also had a daughter from his previous marriage to Penny Marshall, who died in 2018.
Authorities have not released further details as the investigation remains ongoing.
