Martin Grelis, the Australian actor best known for his role in “The Matrix,” has died at 57. His death was confirmed by his talent agency, Sophie Jermyn Management, prompting an outpouring of grief and tributes from fans, friends, and colleagues who remembered him as both a gifted performer and a generous soul.

Talent Agency Confirms Death

Sophie Jermyn Management confirmed Grelis’ death in a statement shared publicly.

“Vale Martin. We’re so saddened to hear of the passing of our beloved client,” the agency said. “Martin was a bright spark who lit up every room he was in – a talented actor, a kind person, and a wonderful soul. Our condolences and thoughts are with his family and loved ones in this difficult time. Gone far too soon xx.”

The statement echoed sentiments across the entertainment community, with many describing Grelis as warm, collaborative, and deeply kind.

A Career Spanning More Than Three Decades

Grelis enjoyed a career that stretched more than 30 years. He began acting in 1999, appearing as Boba Fett in the fan production “The Dark Redemption.”

He later landed a small role in the Australian drama “Big Sky” before appearing in “The Matrix” as a military helicopter pilot.

In the 1999 sci-fi blockbuster, Keanu Reeves starred as Neo, a computer hacker who discovers humanity is living inside a simulated reality controlled by intelligent machines. Grelis appeared in the iconic helicopter sequence involving Agent Smith, played by Hugo Weaving.

Over the years, Grelis also appeared in the film “Iron Sky,” the TV movie “Schapelle,” and the television series “Rake.”

More recently, he played Christopher in the miniseries “Alpha King” and appeared in the short film “The Trial.” His final screen appearance was reportedly earlier this year on “Alpha King.”
