Lifelong Friend of the Reiners Opens Up About Beloved Rob Reiner & His Son’s Interactions the Night of His Passing

Conan O’Brien’s holiday party is where the incident between Rob Reiner and his son, Nick, appears to have begun and now a friend of the family who lived nearby is speaking out about what occured.

“They had had an argument at Conan’s holiday party, and Rob had been telling people that they’re scared for Nick and scared that his mental state was deteriorating,’’ the lifelong family friend told The New York Post, adding that “Nick was supposedly off drugs” before it came out that he was “not so much off them.”

Another family friend also added, “I know [the parents] wanted him to get help, go to rehab, but he wanted to get help while at home — he did not want to get treatment at a facility,” saying that they have “argued about that for years.’’

On Dec. 14, Nick Reiner was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department, according to the Los Angeles Times. He was initially being held on $4 million bail, but is now being held without bail on murder charges, the LAPD announced on December 15.

Billy Crystal Arrived At The Scene After Getting a Call From Rob Reiner’s Daughter

On the night that Reiner was killed, Billy Crystal was spotted at the actor’s house, being joined by Larry David at the house. ABC 7 Los Angeles is adding that Crystal and David “stayed briefly before departing,” with Crystal being described by a neighbor as looking “like he was about to cry.”

Following video footage of Crystal circulating from the scene, TMZ reported that Crystal saw the bodies of Reiner and his wife after they were killed.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ Rob and Michele’s daughter Romy called Crystal and his wife not long after she called police to report finding her parents brutally murdered inside their Brentwood home Sunday,” the outlet wrote. “Sources with direct knowledge tell us Billy and his wife raced over to the house — and were there so quickly, one source tells us — the couple actually saw their slain friends … and wanted to say their goodbyes.”

Reiner had a close bond with Crystal, having worked with him on numerous projects, including “When Harry Met Sally,” where Crystal played the main character, along with “This Is Spinal Tap” where he starred as Morty the Mime, as well as “The Princess Bride,” in which he portrayed Miracle Max.
