OAKLAND — Police on Tuesday released a surveillance image of an unidentified woman sought for an Oct. 1 downtown carjacking that left a 77-year-old rideshare driver hospitalized.
The violent carjacking happened about noon Oct. 1 in the 1100 block of Clay Street.
Police said the rideshare driver, a Half Moon Bay resident, had just dropped off a passenger and was sitting in his parked Toyota Prius.
A woman then walked up to the vehicle, opened the door and began struggling with the driver before dragging him outside, where she pummeled him repeatedly with her fists, police said.
The woman then drove away in the Toyota.
The driver sustained severe facial injuries and had to be hospitalized for several days, authorities said.
The stolen Toyota was recovered a short time later the same day in the area of Fifth and Henry streets in West Oakland. The suspect was last seen walking away from the vehicle.
The suspect is described as Black, 20 to 30 years old, between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 7 inches with a thin build and black hair in a ponytail. She was wearing a green sweat suit.
Anyone with information about the suspect may call police at 510-238-3326.
