One of the biggest question marks for the Green Bay Packers heading into the Week 15 showdown with the Denver Broncos on the road at Empower Field at Mile High was the uncertain status of star running back Josh Jacobs, who is pivotal to the team’s success on the offensive side of the football during the 2025 NFL season.
Ahead of one of the most important games of the season, Jacobs has been dealing with knee and ankle issues, which threatened to keep him sidelined against the Broncos. However, the veteran back pushed to play and got his wish, resulting in a two-touchdown performance.
Even though the Packers fell short of coming out on top in Denver, Jacobs was solid, which is a promising sign for the rest of the season, as this team is not the same offensively without the three-time Pro Bowler leading the way out of the backfield for Green Bay.
Josh Jacobs Admits Clashing With Packers HC Matt LaFleur

Apparently, Jacobs had words with the Packers’ head coach, Matt LaFleur, when he tried to get him not to play due to an injury. The veteran back admitted there have been “couple times” since he joined Green Bay that he has “clashed” with LaFleur while insisting on playing through an injury.
“I just know he knows my mindset,” Jacobs said during media availability. “It’s been a couple times since I’ve been here where we kind of clashed on if they was going to allow me to play or not, and every time I had a pretty good game. I think he’s probably to the point where he’s like, ‘Man, I’m just going to trust you. If you say you can do it and you believe that you can do, then I’m going to let you go.’”
As Jacobs said, he has played well when he has lobbied to play through an injury, which has earned LaFleur’s respect while also convincing the head coach that he’s able to get the job done even when banged up throughout the season.
Jacobs Aggravated Knee Injury in Loss to Broncos

Although Jacobs has LaFleur’s respect and is clearly as tough as they come in the NFL in terms of battling through injuries, the 27-year-old back did reaggravate his knee injury during the loss to the Broncos, which is obviously a concern for the Packers moving forward.
However, the veteran running back will likely remain adamant about playing when he feels like he can physically get the job done on the field and help his team.
“It’s my decision at the end of the day,” Jacobs said. “What do I feel? Do I feel like I’m going to hinder the team? Do I feel like I can add value to the team? If I feel like I can, I’m going to do everything I can to play.”
With the season coming down to the wire and the team heading into a crucial divisional battle with the Chicago Bears in Week 16, it’ll be interesting to see whether Jacobs is on the field to help his squad in a game that will likely determine the winner of the NFC North division crown.
