Rams Make Telling Decision on Davante Adams Amid Good News for Seahawks Game

The Los Angeles Rams have tempered expectations all week. That was both with the words of head coach Sean McVay and Davante Adams’ participation in practice for the Rams.

On Wednesday, they made it official.

The Rams continue to hold out hope they will have Adams available for Week 16. LA will host the Seattle Seahawks on “Thursday Night Football.” However, they have officially suggested he is a long shot to suit up.

Davante Adams Draws Ominous Injury Designation

“Rams wide receiver Davante Adams (knee/hamstring) is listed as “doubtful” for the Rams’ Thursday Night Football game in Seattle at Lumen Field,” TheRams.com’s Stu Jackson and Wyatt Miller wrote on December 17. “He exited last week’s game against the Lions and did not return.”

Adams was optimistic about his potential availability postgame, but McVay was not.

“He was optimistic talking to him. He knows his body really well,” McVay told reporters on December 15. “I can’t imagine that’s good for Thursday, with just the short amount of time. I certainly wouldn’t rule him out quite yet, but it didn’t look good.”

This is a critical rematch against the Seahawks, who have the same 11-3 record as the Rams. LA also has to plan for its postseason future, they hope, with Adams in it.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Adams is considered “week-to-week,” per his sources.

“Adams is a long shot for Thursday night vs. the Seahawks, but the Rams are not ruling him out, holding out hope,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler wrote on December 17. “It’s essentially a hamstring pull. Usually players don’t come back from that on three days’ rest for a Thursday night game, but let’s see what the Rams decide here.”

Adams did not participate in any practice during the week. The Rams only held walkthroughs. Even on a shortened schedule, that suggests his final designation is more wishful thinking than the reality of the situation.

The Rams will turn to a combination of Jordan Whittington, Konata Mumpfield, Tutu Atwell, and Xavier Smith if Adams indeed sits.

Rams Get Good News on Braden Fiske, Others

While Adams’ chances look grim, the Rams are more optimistic about defensive lineman Braden Fiske suiting up against the Seahawks.

Fiske is the only other player on the Rams’ injury report carrying a designation into gameday. The Rams listed two starters–left tackle Alaric Jackson and fill-in safety Jaylen McCullough–among the six players on their final injury report of the week.

Whittington and tight end Nick Vannett were the others.

Fiske and fellow frontline players Byron Young, Jared Verse, and Kobie Turner could be in for a big day against the Seahawks.

Seahawks Rule Out Charles Cross

While Adams’ Week 16 status remains up in the air, the Rams received an encouraging update from the Seahawks’ side.

“The Seahawks will be without left tackle Charles Cross for Thursday night’s game against the Rams, the result of the hamstring injury that occurred on Seattle’s game-winning field goal in Sunday’s win over the Colts,” Seahawks.com’s John Boyle wrote on December 18 in Seattle’s final report.

“Other than Cross, who did not practice all week, every other player on the injury report was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice, and no other player has a game status, meaning everyone should be available.”

The Rams enter Week 16 ranked ninth in sacks and 13th in pressure rate, per Pro Football Reference.
