Defensive ace Draymond Green has no issue with Golden State Warriors governor Joe Lacob expressing frustration about his team starting the 2025-26 season with a 13-14 record.
While responding to a dismayed Warriors fan recently, Lacob said nobody is as “frustrated” as him, and that he’s “working” on ways to get the team back on track.
Green said he could perfectly relate to Lacob’s sentiments, while guaranteeing that the Warriors will turn their season around.
“[Lacob] should be frustrated. We’ve f—ing sucked so far,” Green said on the “Draymond Green Show” on Wednesday. “It is frustrating, and we’ve got to figure it out and we will figure it out — I have zero doubts about that.”
‘Passionate as Hell’
Lacob has been known as one of the most hands-on owners in the NBA, getting in the trenches with the front office on every single move. Green, who has reportedly advised Lacob on certain decisions — inquiring about LeBron James in 2024 and passing up on a trade for Lauri Markkanen — knows how invested the team owner is.
“Joe is passionate as hell. You’re either going to love his passion or hate it,” Green said, via NBC Sports Bay Area. “Whether you love his passion or whether you hate it, the one thing you do know is the most important thing to Joe — and you’ll understand that at every step of the way — is winning…
“… If you’re not winning, he’s pissed, and that’s just how Joe rolls.”
“That’s who he is. That’s a large part of the reason this organization became winners, because you’re run by a winner So, it is what it is. No one from our organization is cracking from it.”
Steve Kerr Echoes Sentiments
Steve Kerr, the longtime head coach of the Warriors, told reporters on Wednesday that he could totally see why Joe Lacob was frustrated with the team, but brushed off the Warriors owner’s comments as “not a big deal.”
“We’re all frustrated,” Kerr said, via ESPN’s Anthony Slater. “Joe is frustrated. I’m frustrated. Steph and [Green], everybody’s frustrated. This is kind of how the league works. I hate when people are going to post private emails. Imagine if everyone’s emails were just publicly posted, how tough that would be to live our lives.
“Joe supports me 100 percent. I support him. We have a great connection. We’ve had so much continuity here. Our stable environment in our organization is one of our strengths.”
In his email response to the disgruntled fan, Lab cited “league trends” and “style of play” for Golden State’s issues, while supporting the underperforming Jimmy Butler. The Warriors, for all their issues, remain a solid defense team, ranking fifth in defensive efficiency and sixth in opponent 3P%. Their offense, however, has struggled — even with Stephen Curry on the floor — and ranks 21st in the league.
Kerr plans to stick with his new starting unit of Curry, Moses Moody, Butler, Green and Quinten Post going forward, with hopes of attaining continuity and rhythm. Jonathan Kuminga has fallen out of his rotation, having received three consecutive healthy DNPs.
