Steph Curry Sounds Off on Ja Morant’s Clash With Klay Thompson

Nearly a month after Ja Morant and Klay Thompson had a confrontation, Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors has broken his silence about the incident. Curry gave his take on what happened between his former teammate and the Memphis Grizzlies‘ brash young star.

Speaking to ESPN’s Anthony Slater and Tim MacMahon, Curry was one of several Warriors players who discussed Thompson’s exit from Golden State in 2024. He was also asked about his reaction to Thompson’s clash with Morant, feeling that his Splash Brother didn’t have his usual backup.

“The idea that he is carrying the Warrior success no matter what jersey he has on, I do like that part of it. But I don’t like people taking shots at him when he doesn’t have that coverage and he doesn’t have his guys with him,” Curry said.

The altercation happened on November 22 after the Grizzlies’ 102-96 win over the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center. Morant, who didn’t play in the game, got into Thompson’s face and started talking trash and pointing his finger at him.

The history between Morant and Thompson started when the latter was still part of the Warriors. Thompson seemingly had the last say after dropping a truth bomb on Morant.

“Ja, he’s a funny guy. He has a lot to say all the time, especially for a guy who rarely takes accountability. But you know what, that’s for another day,” Thompson said, via NBC Sports Bay Area.

Draymond Green Calls Out Mavs

Steph Curry wasn’t the only former teammate to notice that Klay Thompson was all by himself in his confrontation with Ja Morant. Draymond Green was baffled and seemingly sent a message to the Dallas Mavericks, pointing to another incident involving Thompson and Myron Gardner of the Miami Heat.

“That’s two instances in a row I saw him arguing by himself. What the f–k?” Green told ESPN.

While Morant’s issue with Thompson was based on their history, Gardner got too emotional. He approached the four-time NBA champion after the game and seemingly squashed what happened during their game on November 24, as per The Smoking Cuban.

Thompson is not new to getting trash talked by players and responding back. He famously taunted Devin Booker by showing off four fingers in October 2022. He also did it to the Grizzlies in March 2023.

Curry and Green Wish Thompson Was Still in Golden State

The Golden State Warriors and Klay Thompson have moved on from each other after the player signed with the Dallas Mavericks. Steph Curry and Draymond Green are still teammates and will likely retire with the Warriors. They would have preferred if Thompson was still in Golden State.

“I wish he was still here,” Curry said, via ESPN.

“It should be trio. That’s weird to me,” Green added.

Curry and Green visited Thompson in his house in Dallas back in February amid their six-game road trip, flying from Wisconsin to Texas. It was the closure that they wanted, though it was about catching up and not talking about what should have happened.
