As you’ve certainly heard by now, Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer Reiner were found stabbed to death at their home in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Now, we have grim new details about the events leading up to their grisly murders.

According to a new report from TMZ, Nick was recently diagnosed with schizophrenia.

And just weeks before his parents’ deaths, a change in the 32-year-old’s medication led to erratic, unpredictable behavior.

Insiders tell TMZ that Nick’s doctors were hoping the change would help “stabilize” him, but instead it had the opposite effect.

One source tells the outlet that Nick’s substance abuse issues made his schizophrenia significantly worse.

“Nick was out of his head,” says the insider.

Nick’s struggles with substance abuse and mental health have been well-documented over the years.

But this is the first time we’re hearing that he was diagnosed with schizophrenia.

The news comes on the heels of a report that Rob opened up about being “petrified” of his son not long before he was murdered.

According to a report from Page Six, hundreds gathered at Albert Brooks’ Los Angeles home on Monday for a memorial service for Nick and Michele.

An unidentified celebrity guest reportedly left other attendees in tears when he recounted his final conversation with Rob.

“I’m petrified of [Nick]. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’m afraid of my son. I think my own son can hurt me,” Rob reportedly told this person.

Details of Rob and Michele’s final hours continue to emerge, but it seems that the tragic series of events began at a holiday party hosted by Conan O’Brien on Saturday, December 13.

Insiders say Nick clashed with Bill Hader and other famous guests, a situation that led to a “loud argument” between Nick and Rob and a hasty exit from the party.

“They had had an argument at Conan’s holiday party, and Rob had been telling people that they’re scared for Nick and scared that his mental state was deteriorating,” a source described as “a lifelong friend of the family” explained.

“Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous,” said a different insider previously.

A third source alleges that Nick behaved “creepily” at the party and pestered several guests by asking if they were famous.

We will have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.
