The Bills are likely to undergo some coaching changes this offseason, as several assistant coaches may be on other teams’ radar.
However, Buffalo will likely already lose one assistant coach to the college level.
Bills Set to lose Assistant Coach
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on Friday, “Bills defensive assistant/offensive advisor Christian Taylor will leave the organization at the end of the season to become Wyoming’s offensive coordinator and quarterback coach.”
Taylor joined the Bills coaching staff in 2024 after serving as the offensive coordinator and running backs coach at William & Mary from 2020 to 2023.
While the Bills will be losing Taylor, Wyoming’s head coach, Jay Sawvel, seemed excited to be adding Taylor to his staff.
“Christian Taylor has a great football mind and has had success at two different schools as an offensive coordinator and has great experience in the National Football League,” Sawvel said on Friday. “He has coached on both sides of the ball and what is impressive is how he utilizes his players and his diversity in the run game as those are areas where we feel we need to make great improvements in this program.”
Wymoing should be familiar to Bills fans since starting quarterback Josh Allen played there from 2015 to 2017.
Allen played in 27 games for the Cowboys, recording 5,066 passing yards and 44 touchdowns. The Bills drafted Allen in the 2018 NFL Draft, and he’s been one of the best quarterbacks in the league since then.
Taylor could be the first of many coaches to leave the Bills this offseason, and the biggest one could be offensive coordinator Joe Brady.
Joe Brady Could Leave Buffalo This Offseason
Brady joined the Bills coaching staff as the quarterbacks coach in 2022. In the winter of 2024, he was promoted to offensive coordinator after the Bills parted ways with Ken Dorsey midway through the 2023 season.
There was plenty of speculation that Brady might have landed a head coaching job last offseason, but he ultimately withdrew his name from consideration.
Two offseasons ago, former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson was a hot name during the coaching cycle. Still, he decided not to accept a head-coaching position and instead return to Detroit for one more season.
The Bears made a standout decision this past offseason by hiring Johnson as their head coach, and it has proven to be one of the best moves Chicago has ever made.
Chicago is having a great season, and right now the Bears hold a 10-4 record and sit atop the NFC North standings.
Brady might emerge as next year’s equivalent of Johnson, patiently waiting for the right head coaching opportunity to become available, then transforming the team he eventually takes over.
The Bills have several key objectives this season, especially with Brady potentially joining another team. Buffalo could emerge as the team to beat in the AFC this year, particularly since the Chiefs have been knocked out of the playoffs. Historically, Kansas City eliminated the Bills in four out of the last five playoff matchups, making this a pivotal season for Buffalo
