Ex-Steelers DT Claimed on Waiver Wire 1 Day After Release

If the Pittsburgh Steelers were planning to waive defensive tackle Brodric Martin and then bring him back on the practice squad this week, the move didn’t work. Martin didn’t clear waivers.

The Las Vegas Raiders announced Friday they claimed Martin off waivers. Pittsburgh released Martin to create space on their active roster for edge rusher Jeremiah Moon.

The Steelers needed extra edge depth with T.J. Watt still out and Nick Herbig doubtful for Week 16.

While spending about six weeks with the Steelers, Martin played in one contest — the 26-7 loss to the Buffalo Bills on November 30. In that game, he appeared on defense for 10 snaps and played two snaps on special teams.

Martin didn’t record a statistic.

In the Raiders, Martin is joining his fourth NFL organization of the season. The defensive tackle spent the preseason with the Detroit Lions, who drafted Martin at No. 96 overall in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Lions waived Martin just ahead of roster cutdown day. Martin then joined the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad.

Martin dressed for one game in Kansas City, but he didn’t appear on the field in the contest.

The Steelers signed Martin off the Chiefs practice squad on November 5.

The 26-year-old defensive tackle is joining a Raiders squad that owns a 2-12 record. There could be significant changes coming to Las Vegas this offseason.

To clear space for Martin, the Raiders announced waiving defensive end Jahfari Harvey.

Standing at 6-foot-5 and 330 pounds, Martin is a massive interior defensive lineman. But he’s failed to carve out much of a role with an NFL team.

In six NFL games, Martin has posted four combined tackles. He made one start for the Lions in 2024.
