Aaron Glenn Makes Feelings Clear on Benching Jets QB Brady Cook

New York Jets rookie quarterback Brady Cook had a tough day at the office.

The green and white were blown out 29-6 in Week 16 against the New Orleans Saints. After the game, head coach Aaron Glenn was asked if he considered benching Cook for veteran backup Tyrod Taylor in the second half.

“No. The thing is, we weren’t stagnant until the second half. If you take a look at where we were at, I think it was 9-6, so I thought we were right there in the game. I just thought at that time Brady would give us the best chance to win,” Coach Glenn explained on Sunday, December 21.

Jets Didn’t Bench Cook, but Insider Thinks They Should

ESPN’s Rich Cimini wrote on social media that it “might be time to sit him [Cook] down for his own good.”

It was a rough outing for the former Missouri product.

He finished the game, completing 22-of-35 passes for 188 passing yards. Cook didn’t score a touchdown, threw an interception, and was also strip-sacked, giving up a fumble.

Cook was sacked eight times, losing 57 yards in the process.

Top Social Media Reactions to Cook’s Performance for the Jets

“Understand tank, but Brady Cook is [Justin] Fields’ level unplayable and making everything else worse. Should go Tyrod [Taylor] if he can survive the last two,” a fan posted.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini revealed that “Brady Cook completed only 1 pass longer than 9 air yards. You can’t function in the NFL when your offense is that limited. You’re playing on a 10-yard field. Impossible.”

“Brady Cook’s average air yards per attempt in the first half, per TruMedia: 0.7 yards. Yes, you’re reading that right,” Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic posted.

A fan reacted by saying, “Brady Cook has the pocket awareness of a moldy lemon.”

“Probably the last we’ve seen of Brady Cook. Tyrod will start the remaining two games and we hold our breath for good news regarding draft positioning so we can draft Moore or Mendoza,” Optimistic Jets said.

A fan openly said that, “Brady Cook actually might be the WORST Quarterback we have on the roster 😂.”

Where Do the Jets Turn Next?

If the Jets make a quarterback change, where do they go from here?

The green and white have two games remaining in the 2025 regular season. A home game against the New England Patriots and then a road contest versus the Buffalo Bills.

The only three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster are Cook, Fields, and Taylor.

Cook has been a turnover machine: fumbling twice and throwing six picks. Taylor is battling multiple injuries, including a groin and a knee. Bluntly, Fields appears disinterested in returning to the lineup.

The only other passer left is Hendon Hooker, whom the Jets added to the practice squad. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

The Jets have long since been eliminated from the playoffs, and the only thing left is fast-forwarding to the end of the season. Would Hooker be an upgrade over what the Jets currently boast at the quarterback position? Shoulder shrug, but does it really even matter anymore? Probably not.
