Ashton Jeanty put the Las Vegas Raiders‘ offense on his shoulders as the team fell short, losing 23-21 to the Houston Texans on December 21 at NRG Stadium.
Jeanty recorded 128 rushing yards on 24 rushing attempts, averaging 5.3 yards per attempt while recording one touchdown on the ground. Moreover, he recorded one reception in the passing game for 60 receiving yards and one touchdown.
After the game, Jeanty spoke on “Raiders Postgame Live” and shared what worked for him and the Las Vegas offense, allowing him to display the production many hope to see at a consistent level in 2026.
“I think we come out and practice hard every week, but I think we brought that energy today on the sideline before the game,” Jeanty said on the broadcast. “We’re all together, united. I mean, we just kept fighting no matter what. Whether it was a bad play or a mistackle, we just kept fighting and kept playing. Obviously, it didn’t end our way, but I’m extremely proud of the team for playing better against one of the better teams in the NFL.
“I think we just took advantage of the mismatches, whether it routes on the DBs, or whether it was me lining up wide on a linebacker. And then the run game, we was pounding the rock. So, we just kept taking advantage of what was working throughout the course of the game.”
Pete Carroll Praises Raiders’ Ashton Jeanty
Moreover, Raiders head coach Pete Carroll shared his thoughts on Jeanty’s performance despite it coming in a losing effort.
“I think it was a beautiful day to watch Ashton,” Carroll told reporters. “You can just see what his talent is—so obvious to me and, I’m sure, everybody that’s really watching him.
“He’s just really hard to tackle, and these guys just fall off him, and he just keeps striding on past one, but on the run, too. Same situation. He’s done it a number of times. It was great to see him have that much space to do his thing. I give a lot of credit to the guys up front for getting that done.”
Raiders Outlook for Final Two Games
It was only his second game of the 2025 NFL season, with over 100 yards rushing, and his first since he recorded 138 rushing yards against the Chicago Bears on September 28. With two games left in the campaign, the Raiders would be best served to ensure Jeanty gets as many touches to build his confidence for next season.
Another 100-plus yard game from Jeanty would allow him to see that he’s more than capable of putting these numbers up consistently behind a serviceable offensive line. The Raiders have two winnable games against the New York Giants and the Kansas City Chiefs.
In an ideal world, Jeanty goes off for over 100 yards. At the same time, the Raiders lose, considering Las Vegas are looking to secure the No. 1 overall pick and potentially have a chance to select Indiana Hoosiers QB Fernando Mendoza. It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out for the Silver and Black.
