Trent Williams Gives 49ers Good News After Win Over Colts

San Francisco 49ers‘ Trent Williams is 37, and his NFL career could be ending after this season as he’ll be 38 once the 2026 campaign gets underway. However, for Williams, age is nothing but a number.

During his postgame appearance on ESPN with Scott Van Pelt after the Week 16 win over the Indianapolis Colts, 49ers fans were loudly and consistently chanting “one more year,” a chant the broadcast couldn’t ignore. Van Pelt asked the 49ers veteran to respond to the crowd, and this is what he said:

“I’m nowhere near done,” Williams told the 49ers fans in the crowd at Lucas Oil Stadium (h/t KNBR). “So, yeah, we got a few more years.”

Moreover, Van Pelt played up the response to the crowd to get them even more hyped about what Williams had said.

“Hey, he says he’s nowhere near done,” Van Pelt added. “He’s going to run it back. The show goes on. The show goes on. It’s The Wolf of Wall Street.”

Trent Williams Revealed His Future Intentions

In 2024, after restructuring his contract and signing a three-year, $82.66 million deal that keeps him under contract for next season, Williams said he wanted to play well into his late 30s and possibly his 40s.

“I’m going to play as long as I can,” Williams said (h/t ESPN). “As long as I feel like I’m a productive player. As long as I feel like I have something to offer, I’m going to want to play football. That’s all I’ve done since the second grade.

“I’ve seen [Andrew] Whitworth winning a Super Bowl at 41 or 42. It is like, why not me? So, who knows if you get compensated at the top of your position at the age of 40? But I don’t think that matters. To me if I could still be out there. I just want to continue to knock barriers down. And I know at my age it’s probably, there’s not been a lot of people to play at an All-Pro level outside of a quarterback.”

It will be interesting to see whether Williams is capable of playing until he reaches 40, and whether those games will come with San Francisco. Nonetheless, the crowd in Indianapolis likely hopes that they are.

49ers Have Challenging Finish to 2025 NFL Season

With the 49ers locked into a playoff spot, attention now turns to their seeding and the possibility of a division title, depending on how the final games unfold. To secure the NFC West crown, they must at least win both remaining matchups, facing tough competition along the way.

San Francisco’s final two opponents are the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks, both already playoff-bound and still battling for their own division positioning. The advantage for the 49ers comes from playing these games at Levi’s Stadium, where the home crowd could provide a crucial boost.

Nonetheless, Williams is up for the challenge of what the next two weeks bring for the Niners as they attempt to not just win the NFC West but also secure the No. 1 seed in the conference.

“It’s important, but it’s not the be-all and end-all,” Williams told reporters (h/t 95.7 The Game). “We’ve got two playoff teams coming up. I’m just excited to see how we match up. There’s a great chance we could see one of those two teams in the playoffs. The number one seed is important, but it’s not the number one thing on our mind.”
