The San Antonio Spurs beat the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Cup semifinals last week, but they may be down their best player for the rematch on Tuesday, December 23.
Victor Wembanyama is listed as questionable with left calf injury management on the official injury report. The center had 14 points, 12 rebounds and two assists in San Antonio’s last game on Sunday, December 21, a 24-113 win over the Washington Wizards.
The last time the Spurs faced the Thunder, Wembanyama came off the bench in his return from a calf injury and helped San Antonio upset the defending NBA champions in Las Vegas. He scored 22 points with nine rebounds and 2 assists in 21 minutes.
For the season, Wembanyama is averaging 24.4 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 51.3% from the field and 34.8% from three.

Wembanyama returned from a left calf strain that cost him 12 games on Saturday, December 13 and has not missed a game since. It appears the Spurs may be trying to give their superstar some rest for the first time in a week.
San Antonio will face the Thunder on the road on Christmas Day, and the team definitely wants Wembanyama ready to go for the marquee game. As far as tonight’s contest is concerned, the Spurs have played well this season without him in the lineup, posting a 9-3 record, but they would miss his defensive presence.
San Antonio won’t take any chances with Wemby if he is not feeling 100%. The Spurs will likely evaluate him pregame and then make a final decision on his status.
San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder Rivalry
Two teams stocked with young talent and championship aspirations, the Spurs and the Thunder have quickly formed one of the best rivalries in the NBA. Oklahoma City is a league-best 26-3 and is in first in the Western Conference, while San Antonio is 21-7 and in second.
The Spurs handing the Thunder just their second loss of the season and denying them the chance to win the NBA Cup only added to the history between these two teams. They will play three more times in the regular season after tonight and could certainly meet again in the postseason.
Oklahoma City could be down a few key players for tonight’s contest, the second leg of a back-to-back for the team. Chet Holmgren, Isaiah Hartenstein and Alex Caruso all missed yesterday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies with injuries.
