Pete Davidson is stepping into a new chapter of his life, and fans are getting a glimpse of that evolution both personally and physically. The comedian recently appeared in Instagram photos that subtly highlighted his ongoing tattoo removal journey, just weeks after welcoming his first child with girlfriend Elsie Hewitt.

The photos, shared by Hewitt, showed Davidson cradling their newborn daughter, Scottie, who was born on Dec. 12. Davidson appeared shirtless while holding the baby, revealing that many of the tattoos that once covered his arms have significantly faded, with some ink still visible on his shoulders and chest. Hewitt also posted a separate image holding their daughter and captioned the moment simply, “MY BEST FRIENDS,” per the outlet.

A Visible Change Years in the Making

Davidson began the tattoo removal process in 2020 after getting sober, a decision he has previously linked to wanting a fresh start. According to the Daily Mail, a source previously said the comedian “just woke up one day and wanted them gone,” adding that the transformation has been a long-term commitment. Another insider told the outlet that Davidson has remained sober since September of last year and gained weight as part of his recovery.

The process, however, has not been easy. During a January appearance on the “Today” show, Davidson described tattoo removal as “pretty terrible,” warning viewers to be certain before getting inked. He explained that seeing himself after getting sober was a turning point and motivated him to make changes.

Davidson has also spoken candidly about the timeline involved. During an appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” he admitted he did not realize how long tattoo removal would take. He explained that removing a single tattoo can require at least seven sessions, with colored ink taking even longer. When asked if there were any tattoos he was particularly happy to remove, Davidson replied, “All of them.”

Where He Stands Now and What’s Next

In November, it was reported that Davidson provided an update on his progress in an exclusive interview with People. At the time, the former “Saturday Night Live” cast member said he was nearly finished removing tattoos from his arms, after first focusing on his hands and neck since they were the most visible. He shared that his goal was to wear a T-shirt without visible ink by the end of the year.

Davidson added that roughly 65 to 70 percent of his tattoos remained, though many had faded. His body art collection once included around 200 tattoos, and a source previously told People that he has spent about $200,000 on the removal process so far.

Mental health and sobriety have played a major role in Davidson’s decision. He previously told Variety that the tattoos reminded him of a “sad person that was very unsure.” While he said he still thinks tattoos are “cool,” he noted that he plans to keep only a small number in the end

As Davidson embraces fatherhood and continues prioritizing his well-being, the changes appear intentional and deeply personal. Reflecting on his younger years, he summed it up simply, saying, “When you’re young, you get stuff.”
