The coronation already came for Philadelphia Eagles cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in 2024, when the rookie duo became stars on a defense that rolled to a 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
Now, there’s another feather in the cap for DeJean and Mitchell as both were named first time Pro Bowlers in 2025.
“Philadelphia Eagles cornerbacks Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell, New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez, Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens, Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane and a trio of Denver Broncos linemen are among the first-time Pro Bowl selections for the 2026 rosters, as announced by the league Tuesday,” The Athletic’s Jayna Bardahl wrote on December 23.
DeJean has established himself as arguably the NFL’s best nickel cornerback in his second season while Mitchell has put his name among the NFL’s very best cover cornerbacks.
The Eagles clinched the NFC East Division title and a playoff bid with their win over the Washington Commanders in Week 16.
DeJean an Mitchell were 2 of 5 Eagles selected to the Pro Bowl along with inside linebacker Zack Baun, defensive tackle Jalen Carter and center Cam Jurgens. It’s the second consecutive Pro Bowl selection for Baun, Carter and Jurgens.
Mitchell Dominant From Start of Rookie Season
Mitchell was a plug-and-play starter for the Eagles from the moment he was selected out of Toledo in the first round (No. 22 overall) in the 2024 NFL draft — just 18 spots ahead of DeJean in the second round (No. 40 overall).
He was dominant as a rookie and somehow amped that up in his second season and now might be the NFL’s premier cover cornerback behind just Denver Broncos superstar and reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain II.
In 8 games this season, Mitchell has allowed less than 10 receiving yards.
“16 CBs have played 500+ coverage snaps in 2025, according to PFF,” The Philly Special’s Anthony DiBona wrote on X. “Only one of those CBs hasn’t allowed a TD… Quinyon Mitchell!”
“What else is there to say?” Bleeding Green’s Jonny Page wrote on X. “(Mitchell) is having the best season I have ever seen from an Eagles’ cornerback since I’ve been properly studying the film. If he had more interceptions, he would get more national recognition.”
DeJean Became Household Name in Super Bowl Win
Every football fan in the world learned DeJean’s name when he electrified the crowd at the Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans with a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown against the Chiefs to give his team a 17-0 lead with 7:03 left in the second quarter of Super Bowl LIX — and he did it on his 22nd birthday.
DeJean picked off Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and weaved his way across the field and found paydirt in the end zone, setting off a wild celebration on the Eagles sideline. It was also DeJean’s first career interception.
Last year, DeJean being inserted into the starting lineup proved to be a turning point for the Eagles. This year, he’s been leading from the jump.
“Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean are the first Eagles cornerbacks to make a Pro Bowl team in their second seasons since Hall of Famer Eric Allen in 1989,” NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Dave Zangaro wrote on X.
