‘Twas the night before Christmas, and the Detroit Lions found themselves prepping for a Christmas Day game against the Minnesota Vikings. So, on Thursday, December 25, the Lions will take the field for a festive showdown against the Vikings and hope to bring their record for the season up from 8-7 to 9-7.
The Vikings are already out of the playoffs, and while the Detroit Lions still have a chance, it’s very slim at this point. According to NFL research, the Lions just have a 6% chance of making it to the postseason, and if they win this game, it will go up to 8%. If they lose, that will fall to less than 1%. To say this game is a must-win isn’t even really the case, since winning won’t put the Lions in the playoffs, but this game, of course, still matters.
Christmas Day games are always exciting, so even if the playoffs aren’t on the line, expect a fun and festive game. Now, ahead of the showdown, the Lions have announced some special news about the event.
Detroit Lions Are Ready for Christmas
The Detroit Lions have announced that they’ll be wearing their alternate black uniforms with the blue trim, blue collars and alternate helmets for their Christmas Day game against the Vikings on the road.
It’s not the first time, either. Detroit has worn these alternates twice this season, once when they beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 24-9, on Monday Night Football on October 20 and the other time when they were victorious over the New York Giants, 34-27, on November 23. The Lions also wore black three times last season.
So, when the Lions take the field on Christmas Day, they’ll be donning all black. Expect a slick look.
Jared Goff Discusses Dramatic End to Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers Game
After the Detroit Lions’ loss to the Steelers on Sunday, December 21, quarterback Jared Goff opened up about how the game ended in a controversial way.
As the story goes, it was a confusing end to the game. The referees deemed the game over after an offensive pass interference call, following Amon-Ra St. Brown pushing Jalen Ramsey in his route. So, it looked like Detroit got a good touchdown just in time, but it didn’t count.
“The one where St. caught it that we thought was a touchdown, in my opinion, that’s a bad call, but those happen,” Goff said after the loss.
Goff added, “Listen, man, they’ve got a tough job and they make calls that go our way all the time, but that one in particular he should not hang his head about and I know he’d like to have the in line back again.”
Meanwhile, a handful of Detroit Lions have official made the Pro Bowl roster for 2025. The Lions players who are in for 2026 include linebacker Jack Campbell, running back Jahmyr Gibbs, edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson, tackle Penei Sewell and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
Campbell, Gibbs, Hutchinson and Sewell were named Pro Bowl starters. The Detroit Lions also had 5 players named as alternates for the Pro Bowl, including Goff (first alternate), safety Brian Branch (first), wide receiver Jameson Williams (fourth) , safety Kerby Joseph (fifth) and tight end Sam LaPorta (fifth).
