Christmas Mass warmed hearts at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels

Los Angeles area Catholics certain in their faith braved uncertain wintry weather to attend Christmas Day Masses at their local parishes and also at a number of services at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles.

Father David Gallardo, pastor at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, celebrated the 10 a.m. Christmas Day Mass with joyful attendees celebrating the birth of Jesus — the “light of the world.”

Archbishop José H. Gomez celebrated the 12:30 p.m. Christmas Day Mass, in Spanish, on Thursday.

“Let us allow the beautiful gift of Christmas to renew our lives, to give us a new sense of our purpose and place in the world. Let us not be afraid to open the doors of our hearts wider and wider every day to welcome Jesus, said Archbishop José H. Gomez, in a statement.

“Let’s keep making more and more room for Him in the ‘inn’ of our hearts. Today a Savior has been born for each one of us. Let us allow His love and His friendship to make everything new in our lives!”

In advance of Christmas Day itself, the archbishop also reminded area Catholics to “once again open our hearts to remember that we are wonderfully created and still more wonderfully restored. … We have a great worth and dignity in God’s eyes. Each one of us. Let us allow Christmas to give our lives a new sense of our purpose. Everything we do now, let us do for love, and out of thanksgiving for this beautiful gift of his love.”

Cathedral Masses are live streamed and available to view later on facebook.com/olacathedral and youtube.com/olacathedral. In addition, Cathedral Masses are broadcast live by ABC7 on digital channel 7.2 and Spectrum 1246.
