New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel went viral earlier this week when he read off the laundry list of inactives for New England’s Week 17 game against the New York Jets. At the end of the inactives, he reported that Offensive Rookie of the Year front-runner, TreVeyon Henderson, was questionable.
Just one day later, Henderson has cleared concussion protocol and will now enter Sunday without an injury designation.
“#Patriots rookie RB TreVeyon Henderson has cleared concussion protocol and no longer has an injury designation. He’s good to go for tomorrow,” insider Evan Lazar reported on X.
Henderson has had a clean bill of health all season, making him the only running back on the roster who can say that.
He has not missed a game with an injury since September of 2022 as a sophomore at Ohio State University.
I say that to say this: Henderson is not a fragile back with a storied injury history. This makes his clearing concussion protocol in six days rather realistic.
However, with a deep playoff run just around the corner, it will be interesting to see how New England handles their beat-up rookie.
Will TreVeyon Henderson Play Sunday?
In short, yes. All signs point to the fact that the rookie will be rolled out 24 hours after clearing concussion protocol.
“Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson has cleared concussion protocol and is expected to play Sunday versus the Jets,”
Adam Schefter announced.
All those in the know seem to think that the Patriots will not play it safe with the 23-year-old scatback.
It is the
NFL, and any team can beat another on any given day, but it is worth noting that a road trip to the 3-12 Jets isn’t exactly a gotta-have-it moment for the 12-3 Patriots.
Rhamondre Stevenson has missed some games this season, but he is as healthy as a player can be in Week 17 of an NFL season.
I expect Stevenson to get the start with Johnson in relief, and if the game stays tight early, Henderson will take the field.
