The San Francisco 49ers will play the Seattle Seahawks on January 3 at Levi’s Stadium with the NFC West and No. 1 seed in the conference on the line. Moreover, one Niners player sent a clear message to Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
While speaking to the media, 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir stated that he’s ready for the task of showing the Seahawks star.
“Hopefully, I’ll get the shadow JSN,” Lenoir told reporters in a December 29 video posted by On SI’s Grant Cohn. “I’m ready for this. I hope he ready. Man to man covers me and him. That’s what I want. Me and him.”
The 49ers’ defense can be prone to giving up yards, as they have adopted a bend-but-don’t-break mentality, with key players like Nick Bosa and Fred Warner suffering regular-season-ending injuries.
Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see if Lenoir can keep Smith-Njigba quiet on the night. If that were to happen, then the 49ers could be on their way to winning the NFC West and obtaining the No. 1 seed in the conference.
49ers Get Injury Updates on Key Players
George Kittle didn’t play against the Chicago Bears in Week 17 after the 49ers standout injured his ankle in the Week 16 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Meanwhile, Trent Williams was injured in the victory over the Bears and those are the two big names on the Niners’ injury list heading into the last game of the regular season.
On December 29, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the latest regarding Kittle and Williams during an appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show.”
“Kittle is going to push to come back this week,” Schefter said. “He never tested it last week at all. They weren’t going to play him on Sunday night, so he didn’t go out there. He was out. He’ll have a chance to be back this week, Saturday night against Seattle.
“Trent Williams went out of the game, didn’t come back. Older veteran player, tough on a hamstring. I think if you’re the 49ers, you probably want to see if you can get that bye, give him two weeks off, and then bring him back if that’s possible.”
Adam Schefter Goes Into Detail Over Trent Williams
Moreover, Schefter went into detail regarding Williams because his injury was more recent, and the veteran offensive lineman would be pushing to return to the starting lineup on a short week. Despite what’s on the line against the Seahawks, Schefter still believes it will be challenging for Williams to be back by January 3.
“Now, again, you’ll see how the hamstring is feeling this week. See if he’s got any chance. I think it’ll be tough for him to come back in a short week with a hamstring injury that prevented him from playing. But here’s the great part for the 49ers: they give him veteran rest days during the season.
“So the young left tackle that they brought in last night, he’s used to that. He’s not Trent Williams. Nobody is. But at least he had gotten some reps during the season because they were giving those rest days during the practice week to Trent Williams.”
