The College Football Playoff semifinals are here! As everyone is set to ring in the New Year (2026), there’s no better time to get comfortable and watch some meaningful football games with playoff implications. Across four historical college football bowl locations will be four highly anticipated quarterfinal matchups.
In a standalone contest on New Year’s Eve, the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes will face the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes (Cotton Bowl) at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.
The other matchups are as follows: No. 1 Indiana vs. No. 9 Alabama (Rose Bowl), No. 4 Texas Tech vs. No. 5 Oregon (Orange Bowl), and capping the quarterfinal slate is the No.3 Georgia Bulldogs taking on the No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels (without Lane Kiffin).
Georgia Bulldogs’ Sugar Bowl Showdown With the Ole Miss Rebels
The Georgia Bulldogs are set for another Sugar Bowl showdown to ring in the new year, but this time against the Ole Miss Rebels, whom the Bulldogs defeated earlier this season 43-35.
Coaching might be the biggest storyline headed into this matchup. Bulldogs’ head coach Kirby Smart has been there, done that for this Georgia program, and Lane Kiffin is no longer the man in charge for Ole Miss, as he has decided to move on to LSU, and is not with this Rebels team for their CFP run. Pete Golding is the new head of the football program. Ole Miss has already played one playoff game, as they defeated Tulane last Saturday.

Other Storylines for Ole Miss vs. Georgia
The Georgia Bulldogs are riding the heels of a convincing victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC championship game, which was nearly a month ago. Georgia has a bad recent memory with this venue dating back to last season, when the Sugar Bowl game was postponed for 24 hours due to tragic events in New Orleans, and the Bulldogs eventually lost to Notre Dame to end their season.
The Bulldogs have a slew of key injuries entering this contest, including center Drew Bobo, DL Gabe Harris, and DB Kyron Jones, all being OUT for the Sugar Bowl. Georgia is led by quarterback Gunner Stockton, who is perhaps the X-factor in this matchup because of his heroic effort the first time these two teams played each other.
It’s sure to be a fun one between the Bulldogs and Rebels on Thursday, and this game will likely be predicated on which team controls the ball, can run the ball effectively, and can get key stops at critical points in the game.
