7 unmissable shows coming to Netflix in January

It’s officially 2026, and with a new year comes new TV. This month, Netflix is dropping a string of epic shows, from Nordic noirs to thrillers to wholesome reality. So, for those of you who are all partied out, desperate to spend the next month cuddled up on the couch, here are seven fresh shows not to be missed. You can thank us later… (Picture: Netflix)

1. Land of Sin

Available to watch today, this Nordic noir thriller set in rural Sweden follows the case of teenager Silas, who is discovered dead at a farmhouse on the Bjäre peninsula. When veteran investigator Dani, known for being highly intelligent and highly strung, is teamed up with Malik, a newly graduated police colleague, the two must put their differences aside and solve the case.

Land of Sin is available to watch from January 2.

2. Unlocked: A Jail Experiment Season 2

First dropping in 2024, Unlocked: A Jail Experiment has become something of a cult classic. The show features real inmates at Pulaski County Detention Facility in Arkansas, who, through Sheriff Eric Higgins’ six-week radical social experiment, are granted more agency. It’s an eye-opening reality series that questions the current US prison system.

Unlocked: A Jail Experiment Season 2 is available to watch from January 7.

His & Hers is a new mystery thriller based on the 2020 Alice Feeney novel of the same name. Without giving too much away — and for those who have yet to read the book — it centres around a journalist who is investigating a murder in her hometown. When she clashes with a suspicious detective, viewers learn that someone is lying. But who?

His & Hers is available to watch from January 8.

4. The Boyfriend: Season 2

The Boyfriend is a Japanese reality dating show, and the nation’s first same-sex dating programme. For one month, a group of single men move into a house together to run a coffee truck business, all while searching for love. Will they meet their soul mate, or walk away empty-handed?

The Boyfriend: Season 2 is available to watch from January 13.

5. Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials

Mia McKenna-Bruce, Helena Bonham Carter and Martin Freeman star in this series adapted from Agatha Christie’s 1929 novel of the same name. The plot is as follows: it’s 1925, and when a country house party prank turns deadly, Lady Eileen ‘Bundle’ Brent (McKenna-Bruce) sets about investigating the murder. Lady Caterham (Bonham Carter) and Superintendent Battaile (Freeman) join the ranks to solve the mystery.

Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials is available to watch from January 15.

6. Can This Love Be Translated?

This South Korean rom-com follows the unexpected romance between a translator and a celebrity. While both have completely different love languages, they still manage to communicate and understand each other. The moral of the story is that sometimes, opposites attract.

Can This Love Be Translated? is available to watch from January 16.

7. Bridgerton: Season 4, Part 1

OK, Bridgerton heads, the time has come for the first part of season 4. In this instalment, the focus is on Benedict Bridgerton’s Cinderella-esque romance with Sophie Baek. The first official trailer dropped in December 2025 and set the scene for the second Bridgerton son’s story.

Bridgerton: Season 4, Part 1 is available to watch from January 29. Part 2 will follow on February 26, 2026.
