Mock Trade Idea Has Yankees All Star Second Baseman Traded To Giants

Yankees All-Star Second Baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr has come up in trade rumors after it was reported that the Yankees are in fact “listening” to offers for him.

Newsweek’s Jackson Roberts created a mock trade idea that would send Jazz Chisholm Jr to the San Francisco Giants this offseason. Jazz, entering his age-28 season, will be a free agent at the end of 2026.

Roberts cites how Jazz would be an excellent fit for the Giants, given the ballpark and McCovey Cove, as well as a left-handed hitter with power who can play a premium position at second base, covering the middle infield with shortstop Willy Adames. Roberts also says you have to realize that, with Rafael Devers at first base and Matt Chapman at third, the Giants’ starting infield, from a defensive and offensive standpoint, would be in strong standing.

In terms of what the Giants would give up to the Yankees in a Chisholm trade, they could be looking for relievers or a starter, if not both. The Giants have notable relievers such as Randy Rodriguez, Joel Peguero, Erik Miller, among others, that the Yankees could seek in a trade.

Yankees Haven’t Yet Had Extension Talks With Jazz Chisholm Jr

According to Yankees GM Brian Cashman in November of 2025, the Yankees and Jazz have not yet held extension talks yet after Chisholm arguably put up the best season of his career in New York during the 2025 season, in which he was a 30/30 player with over 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases and a 4.2 WAR, placing him as one of the best second basemen in all of baseball. Jazz missed a month of the season due to injury, and if not for that, could have approached the 40/40 club.

Because of all of this, it’s no surprise that Jazz is receiving trade discussions, and that the Yankees are, in fact, listening, considering his impending free agency and the fact that his ceiling might not be any higher than it currently is, speaking in terms of trade value for the Yankees.

There’s a strong argument that the Yankees should keep Jazz and not trade him, considering he’s one of their best hitters in a lineup with Aaron Judge, Ben Rice, and Trent Grisham around him. One also needs to factor in whether Cody Bellinger will be re-signed, and if you lose Bellinger, trading Chisholm on top of that wouldn’t make much sense.

Yankees Waiting On Cody Bellinger’s Free Agency Decision

The Yankees have also been linked to free agent SS/2B Bo Bichette, having reportedly checked on him, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Heyman states that the Yankees submitted a formal offer to Cody Bellinger’s agent, Scott Boras, this week, and are still in wait-and-see mode to see whether a deal is finalized.

As for Jazz’s long-term future in New York, it’s not yet fully known. It makes sense why New York would at the very least listen to offers, but whether they trade him is an entirely different story. Either way, he’d fit on a lot of other major league teams besides the Yankees, considering the second base market isn’t very deep to begin with. The Giants are one of several teams that’d be a perfect landing spot if a trade were to happen.
