Texas Receive Hard-Hitting Take Amid Cam Coleman Pursuit

Texas Longhorns head football coach Steve Sarkisian is now focusing on improving his team for the 2026 college football season as they aim to make the College Football Playoff. With the transfer portal now open, the Longhorns are eyeing the top player to help their offense.

On January 2, ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel reported, citing sources, that top transfer wide receiver Cam Coleman is set to visit Texas and Texas A&M this week. Moreover, Coleman then plans to take trips to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, USC Trojans, and Alabama Crimson Tide the following week.

Hank South, managing editor of Horns247, said that with Texas having the first shot at landing Cam Coleman, if he leaves Austin without a signed deal, the chances of him catching passes from Arch Manning next season are slim.

“Having covered the portal now for long enough, if Cam Coleman takes any other visits besides Texas, he’s not going to Texas,” South wrote on X on January 2. “[I] would think the Longhorns will get this one done this weekend. We’ll see, though.”

Coleman played two seasons with the Auburn Tigers, appearing in 23 games while recording 93 receptions, 1,306 passing yards, 14.0 yards per catch, and 13 touchdowns, per Sport Reference.

Cam Coleman Transfer Portal Plan Revealed Amid Texas Link

While South believes it would be bad news for the Longhorns to see Coleman take other visits, it appears the wideout will do so, even though Texas intends to secure the player.

“Texas is working hard to get Cam Coleman on campus here in the next seventy-two hours,” On3’s college football insider Pete Nakos said on January 2 (h/t On3’s Josh Newberg). “We’ll see if it all comes together the way Texas is working right now. Other schools to monitor in this one are Texas A&M, USC, and possibly Alabama…

“Cam Coleman is a recent transfer portal addition. He made the announcement this past week that he’s going to go in the portal. I would tell you that, at this exact moment, I’m expecting him to take a couple of visits, and we’ll see how things play out from there.”

Texas QB Arch Manning Looks to Carry Bowl Momentum

The Longhorns’ QB had a fantastic performance to end the season in Texas’ 41-27 win over the Michigan Wolverines in the 2025 Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on December 31 at Camping World Stadium. Moreover, Manning stunned Michigan with both his arm and his legs.

Manning tore the Wolverines’ defense with his arm and legs. The 21-year-old completed 21 of 35 passes for 221 passing yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, the Texas star had nine carries for 155 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

“He’s an exceptional player, Michigan interim head coach Biff Poggi told reporters postgame (h/t Eric C. Henry of Horns247). “I mean, he made some throws that I thought were like, wow. Then, of course, I had no idea he was… You look at him on the field, he’s big and strong, but I had no idea he was as athletic as he is. He’s a force to be reckoned.”
