Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens is spending the first part of his offseason abroad, as he and his wife, Simone Biles, are in Milan, Italy, to cheer on Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
But Owens also shared a scary experience he had while in Italy.
“Not somebody just tried to snatch my shopping bag in Milan, force of habit i had it tied around my hand so he couldn’t get it and took off running immediately….but still crazy,” he posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday, Feb. 15.
Many comments were left on the post, and Owens replied to all of them, specifically being asked if he would have been able to chase him down if the robber took the bag.
“Not fast at all bro, his arms were moving faster than his legs lol Should’ve seen his face once he realized i turned around and he couldn’t grab it,” Owens wrote, adding that “it was hilarious how slow he started running away once he saw he couldn’t grab it out of my hand.”
He also credited TikTok with helping him be prepared for this moment.
“Honestly i know right, but it was no way he could get it off my hand, I’ve seen too many TikTok’s of that happening so i was prepared,” Owens wrote.

Biles was spotted at the Milano Ice Skating Arena on Friday, Feb. 13 for the men’s figure skating competition. And during intermission at the men’s free skate, the gymnast was interviewed, making an appearance on the jumbotron.
“I’m just super excited to watch today,” Biles said, per The Athletic’s Lukas Weese. “I can skate but I can’t do whatever these athletes are doing tonight.”
The free skate was filled with lots of drama as Ilia Malinin, who was one of the favorites going into the competition, missed out on an Olympic medal after falling, ultimately finishing in eighth place. He finished with 264.49 points, ending a two-plus-year unbeaten streak.
However, it was fitting she was at this event because in a recent interview with PEOPLE, Biles said she planned to start taking ice skating lessons.
“I want to start taking ice skating lessons, just because the rink is three minutes from my house,” she said in November.

While the couple were in Milan at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, it appears they also took full advantage of all the wonderful shopping that is available.
Specifically, Biles shared a mirror selfie from the shopping trip she and Owens went on, writing, “Always spoiling me,” on her Instagram story (per PEOPLE). In the next photo, she showed someone holding up a white Bottega Veneta handbag, monogrammed with Biles’ initials.
“I never knew Bottega did this, might be a special Milan thing?!” Biles wrote. “But how (expletive) cute.”
