Maxx Crosby Lions Trade Talk Finally Addressed by Management

The Detroit Lions have been mentioned as one of the teams interested in pass rusher Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders during this offseason, but for now, Crosby is back with the Raiders. Following a botched trade deal with the Baltimore Ravens, Crosby and the Raiders are together again, although it’s certainly possible that the player will be traded down the road.

While the Lions and Crosby seems like a great fit, especially since the pass rusher is a Michigan native and has that tough-guy Detroit attitude, the real question is, “Were the Lions ever serious about trading for Maxx Crosby?

Now, management is finally speaking up about their thoughts on ultimately making Crosby a Detroit Lions player. In an interview published on Monday, March 30, Detroit Lions president Ron Wood shares what management thought of the Crosby idea and if the Lions were, or are, serious about it.

Detroit Lions President Ron Wood Spills the Beans on Maxx Crosby Deal

Speaking with Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Wood drops the bombshell that the Lions were never interested in getting Crosby. That’s like a dagger to the heart, but it’s also not surprising. Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes has never been keen on spending much of anything for a player to pair with defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, so the lack of Crosby interest makes sense.

In the interview, he says that the Lions were “never were in the game” for a top-tier pass rusher during the offseason, including Crosby or Trey Hendrickson.

“When we’re looking at our cash and cap budget, we’re looking at it as is and as it will be with those guys knowing that we want to keep many of them, all of them if we can,” Wood said in the interview. “So if we had gone out and done the biggest – let’s say we did the Maxx Crosby trade or the Trey Hendrickson signing, that probably would have meant, which one of these guys are we going to let go?”

There’s only so much bag to go around, and that’s why Wood says they were never serious about a Crosby deal.

“I get it,” Wood added in the chat. “The cap side, as I said, is easier to manipulate [than your cash budget] but eventually the bill comes due.”

What the Detroit Lions Are Doing to Maintain Talent

What the Detroit Lions have done is re-sign their handful of main players, such as Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Penei Sewell, Aidan Hutchinson, Jameson Williams, Alim McNeill and Kerby Joseph to long-term deals. They’re also planning to lock in Jahmyr Gibbs, Brian Branch, Jack Campbell and Sam LaPorta.

So, it appears the Lions are really off the table on a Crosby trade. That’s a dagger to those who would like to see him paired with Hutchinson on the field.

At 28 years old, Crosby is in him prime, when he’s healthy. During the 2025-26 NFL regular season, according to NFL research, Crosby recorded 73 total tackles, 10 sacks, 28 tackles for loss and one interception.
