2 fatally shot during fight in East Garfield Park home; 1 in custody

Charges were pending for a man arrested after two people were fatally shot during a fight Monday night in an East Garfield Park home.

Marchillo Freeman 44, and a 31-year-old man began fighting around 9:40 p.m. at the home in the 2800 block of West Washington Boulevard. Freeman pulled out a knife and attacked the younger man, Chicago police said.

The 31-year-old, who has a valid firearm owner identification card, pulled a gun and fired multiple shots, police said, hitting the knife-wielding man multiple times in the body. An unidentified 38-year-old woman also was shot in the head while trying to intervene, according to police.

Freeman and the 38-year-old woman were pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital, officials said.

A firearm was recovered at the scene, and the FOID card holder was taken into custody.
