Wrestling legend The Rock is rumored to be involved in a major WWE WrestleMania 42 storyline involving Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes. WWE is currently telling the story of Orton having a mysterious ally on phone calls, and this person is advising him in his world title feud. Fans are trying to guess the mysterious figure involved in such a major storyline, and The Rock is becoming a popular option.
Wrestling insider Dave Meltzer reported what he’s been hearing from his sources:
“Everyone tells me it’s not him. But of course, if it is, The Rock’s not going to let anyone know. But within the company, it was pretty much strongly denied to me. But like I said, when it comes to Dwayne, there’s only going to be three people who know.
It’s going to be Nick and Paul and Dwayne. And you know, maybe one or two others, but it ain’t going to be, like, a lot of people. So yeah, if he fits, he absolutely fits in the story. But you know, I was absolutely told that it ain’t him, so.”
Meltzer revealed that typical sources can’t confirm anything and don’t believe it will be Rock. However, the rest of the quote shows that Meltzer believes Rock is a realistic option and that only three people in the company would be aware of it.
Why The Rock Makes Sense For WrestleMania
The person advising Orton is implied to have deep family ties to WWE. Orton and Rock are both considered the greatest third generation wrestlers due to their previous eras of relatives achieving a lot in professional wrestling to pave the way.
Rock also had a blood feud with Rhodes spanning over a couple of years that got dropped out of the blue. WrestleMania 40 featured the first night’s main event of Cody and Seth Rollins facing Rock and Roman Reigns in an exciting tag team match.
WWE had Rhodes defeat Reigns for the WWE Championship and overcome Rock’s interference of stacking the odds. Rock also inspired John Cena to turn heel against Cody, but WWE separated them after that. This would be the perfect way to have Rock return to set up a big singles match with Rhodes.
Other Realistic Options Outside Of The Rock
Other theories have emerged from fans trying to forecast who is helping Orton in his attack against Rhodes. Randy’s father “Cowboy” Bob Orton could be the man since it plays into the Orton family history against another second-generation star in Cody.
Former Legacy teammate Ted DiBiase Jr. could make sense since he teamed with Orton and Rhodes, but legal issues may block WWE from using him. Kevin Owens is another popular theory since he was feuding with Orton as a heel before leaving TV while hurt.
A crazy option would be Vince McMahon returning to the company and advising Orton. WWE has stayed distant from McMahon due to his allegations, but his daughter Stephanie is getting inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. Rock remains the most popular option based on the established storyline and his ability to add star power.
