Ex-Giants Super Bowl Champion Wants One Last Ride in New York

It seems like Odell Beckham Jr. isn’t the only former New York Giants star who wants a reunion with his former team.

Former Giants pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul, who won Super Bowl XLVI with New York, pleaded his case to make one last run with the team that drafted him.

Pierre-Paul, despite not playing in 2024, made an NFL comeback in 2025, signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in early December.

He ended up appearing in three games, recording only a pass break-up, but he may still have some pass-rush juice left in him.

If the Giants are considering a Beckham Jr. reunion, should they give JPP a chance, too?

Should the Giants Take a Look at Jason Pierre-Paul?

The New York Giants have one of the deepest groups of pass rushers in the entire NFL, thanks to the elite Brian Burns, standout rookie Abdul Carter, and former first-round pick Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Unfortunately for Pierre-Paul, his addition wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense, considering the Giants have other needs they need to address on the roster.

The former Tampa Bay Buccaneer would surely only cost the veteran’s minimum, but with the Giants’ current cap situation, they need to use every cent they have wisely. They still don’t have a proven starter at right guard.

The only scenario where a reunion makes sense with the former All-Pro pass rusher is if New York ends up parting ways with Thibodeaux in a trade this offseason.

It would free up enough money for the Giants to sign another starter on their offensive line and bring in Pierre-Paul as depth behind Burns and Carter.

Otherwise, signing the 37-year-old would just be silly and would only make the logjam off the edge even worse.

Jason Pierre-Paul’s Giants Tenure

The Deerfield Beach, Florida, native is one of the most accomplished pass rushers over the last 15 years.

After an incredibly productive collegiate career at College of the Canyons, Fort Scott Community College, and the University of South Florida, the New York Giants selected Pierre-Paul 15th overall in the 2010 NFL Draft.

JPP broke out in 2011, racking up a career-high 16.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a safety, earning his lone All-Pro selection for his dominant season.

The Giants would, of course, go on to defeat Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI, where Pierre-Paul was a key contributor.

He recorded two tackles, one quarterback hit, and batted down two passes en route to the 21-17 victory.

Pierre-Paul’s Giants tenure was a productive one; he spent the first eight years of his NFL career there and totaled 58.5 sacks in 111 games played.

His career in New York came to an end after the 2017 season, when the Giants shipped Pierre-Paul to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a 2018 third-round pick and a fourth-round pick swap.

Despite not having played for the Giants since then, Pierre-Paul clearly wants to make one last run in New York, and a reunion could make sense under the right circumstances.

If John Harbaugh wants some veteran depth at outside linebacker, the former first-round pick could be the player he’s looking for as he tries to compete in his first year at the helm.
