In a 120–101 win over the Washington Wizards, James logged 26 minutes and contributed six points, one rebound, one assist and one steal. While he shot 2-of-10 from the field, the opportunity itself underscored the Lakers’ willingness to trust him in a larger role when needed.

He followed that with a scoreless six-minute stint in Tuesday’s 127–113 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers as the rotation tightened with Dončić’s return.

Following a recent win over the Indiana Pacers, Dončić praised the young guard’s growth.

“Definitely a big improvement from last year,” Dončić said. “I saw him in training camp; he was doing some stuff that I was really impressed with.”
