Dodgers-Marlins Trade Pitch Sends $56 Million Ace to Los Angeles for Three Prospects

The Los Angeles Dodgers, often the most active team in MLB in terms of player transactions, are being predicted to pull off a big trade once again.

Should the Miami Marlins trade ace starter after his scorching hot start? FanSided’s Mark Powell wasted no time striking up a strong trade package that might entice the Marlins to trade away their former NL Cy Young and two-time All-Star.

Could Sandy Alcantara’s Hot Start Lead to Blockbuster Trade?

Sandy Alcantara has perhaps had the best start of any starting pitcher in 2026.

Over two starts (16 innings), he’s given up zero earned runs and struck out 12. His velocity seems to be back, and his command is as well. He’s walked just two batters this season. Alcantara is under a five-year, $56 million contract that runs through this season, but includes a team option. Miami would certainly pick up that option if he continues to play this way, but it also highlights a good spot to maximize Alcantara’s trade value.

Back to Mark Powell’s trade pitch, FanSided’s MLB writer proposes the Dodgers offer a trade package of three prospects: OF Mike Sirota, RHP River Ryan, LHP Zach Root.

“This would be quite the haul for Miami. The Marlins could land a top-60 prospect in Sirota who is closing in on the big leagues. Ryan is coming off Tommy John surgery, but should be nearing a full bill of health in the not-so-distant future. Miami could buy low on Ryan, who at 27 years old projects as a middle-of-the-rotation starter. Root, who throws from the other side, could slide into the Marlins rotation as well. At 22 years old, it’s unclear if he projects more as a bullpen asset or back-end rotation pitcher.”

Sandy Alcantara’s Fit with Los Angeles

If this trade were to actually happen, baseball might truly be broken.

Imagine a rotation that includes Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell, and Sandy Alcantara.

That would be unfair.

Sandy Alcantara is just three years removed from winning the NL CY Young (2022). He posted a 2.28 ERA over 228.2 innings that season with 207 strikeouts. If he even returns halfway to that form, he will likely be a very hot commodity at the MLB trade deadline.

In 174.2 innings last season, Alcantara posted an ERA north of 5, which minimized his trade value, and he ultimately stayed put in Miami.

There is, of course, the case that the Marlins are competitive into the summer, and elect to keep Sandy to help with their playoff chances down the stretch.
