Atletico Madrid update on Julian Alvarez injury blow after Arsenal draw

Diego Simeone believes Julian Alvarez will be fit to start the second leg of Atletico Madrid’s Champions League semi-final against Arsenal next week.

Alvarez’s penalty earned Atletico a 1-1 draw against Mikel Arteta’s side in the first leg on Wednesday night after Viktor Gyokeres’ first-half spot kick put the Gunners in front.

However, the Argentina international was forced off with 13 minutes remaining after injuring his ankle in a challenge from Eberechi Eze.

Alvarez was clearly in pain as he left the pitch was seen walking on the pitch after the full-time whistle.

Atletico will also have concerns over Giuliano Simeone and Alexander Sorloth as they also picked up injuries during the game.

‘I don’t think there will be anyone that will not be playing on Tuesday.

‘I suppose they might be feeling some physical discomfort now. Giuliano from a knock, Julian from the fall he had in the middle of the pitch and Sorloth with a hamstring strain, but I have no doubt they’ll be there.’

Atletico are due to play Valencia in La Liga on Saturday before the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Arsenal next Tuesday.
