Pam Grier’s sex life is apparently better than ever now that she’s in her 70s, with the actress claiming she’s enjoying ‘three-day orgasms’.
The Jackie Brown star stunned Wiser Than Me podcast with Julia Louis-Dreyfus with her bold declaration about sex at 76.
Julia, 65, innocently asked if she ‘feels young’, which prompted Pam to reveal one underrated perk of ageing.
‘When you’re young, you can have three, four, five orgasms in an hour,’ the Coffy actress shared. ‘But when you get my age, you have one orgasm, it’ll last three days.’
Baffled, the Veep star asked: ‘What are you talking about?, Like, what are you doing down there to get a three-day orgasm? I need details.’
Laughing, Pam explained, ‘You don’t have to do anything, but when it happens, I just wanna tell you, you just be prepared. It’s gonna be three whole days.’
Julia joked that by the time Pam hits 90, she’ll orgasm for a ‘whole week’, with both women chuckling.
‘If I could have had that when I was younger, I could have had a better life and better boyfriends,’ she retorted.
While Pam’s comments were exaggerated, Dr Sima Al Asad, an intimate wellness expert, told Metro she’s not exactly wrong.
‘There’s actually something very relatable hidden inside the humour,’ she said. ‘Medically speaking, an orgasm itself doesn’t physically last for days, the emotional, neurological and hormonal after-effects absolutely can linger.’
The science behind the feeling means you’re running on endorphins, oxytocin and dopamine, which can last for days.
She added: ‘As women age, sexuality often becomes less about urgency and more about connection, confidence and full-body intimacy. So while younger women may experience more frequent orgasms, many women later in life describe them as feeling deeper, more intense or more emotionally fulfilling.’
Pam’s never been one to hold back on her personal life, having dated a few public figures across her almost 50-year career.
The actress’ notable exes include comedians Freddie Prinze and Richard Pryor, as well as record label boss Kevin Evans and Soul Train host Don Cornelius.
She’s currently dating a mystery man who she previously described as her ‘cosmic partner’, boasting that she’s ‘horny af’.
There is a misconception when it comes to sex that the older you get, the less you have but – as Pam pointed out – this simply isn’t true.
Relationship and sex therapist, Georgina Vass, told us: ‘A significant portion of people are engaging in sexual activity well into their 70s and 80s.
‘In fact, older people generally report having greater sexual satisfaction than they did when they were younger. There are assumptions that older people can’t perform sexually, are inherently disinterested, or don’t find each other attractive, and that’s just not the case. Sex is fundamentally a primal urge.’
While Pam was being cheeky, both experts noted how important it is for celebrities and public figures to help break down taboos when it comes to sex.
‘Her comments are helpful to inspire and raise visibility of sexuality throughout the ages,’ argued Georgina.
‘There are taboos resulting from perceptions that older people having sex is abnormal, which can make their sexual desires and needs invisible. These taboos can bring shame and discomfort to older people who may not feel skilled or confident to bring up their needs with medical providers or prospective partners.’
As Dr Sima noted: ‘Women’s intimate wellness has historically been overlooked, particularly in midlife and beyond. But pleasure, connection and desire are not frivolous subjects; they are deeply linked to confidence, mental wellbeing, relationships and quality of life.
‘Pam’s comment was funny and playful, but it also opens the door to a bigger conversation: women do not lose their femininity, sensuality or sexuality with age. In many cases, they finally begin to understand it.’
