It’s almost Friday, and that means one thing: it’s time to sort our weekend watch lists.

So, without further ado, here are the top 5 shows proving the most popular right now:

At number five, it’s My Royal Nemesis, a brand new South Korean rom-com with a fantasy twist.

It follows a legendary villain from the Joseon era who gets reincarnated into the body of a modern, struggling actress. You know, everyday stuff.

However, while adjusting to her new body — and century — she clashes with Cha Se-gye, the ruthless chaebol heir.

Of course, in true romantic comedy style, these conflicts quickly spark a romance. Soon, the pair are navigating a love-hate relationship while dealing with their own personal problems.

For those who love a good love story with a parallel world twist, this show should definitely be up your street.

And, fans have plenty to say about it on social media. ‘My Royal Nemesis is on Netflix. It’s a must-watch! It literally brings me so much joy,’ one viewer said on Instagram, while another called it a ‘fantastic drama’ with ‘chaotic chemistry’ in the best way.

4. The Boroughs: Season 1 — 5,600,000 views

From fantasy to sci-fi, season 1 of The Boroughs is currently trending.

This show centres around a seemingly normal — and picturesque —retirement community whose world is turned upside down when they must band together as heroes.

With time not on their side (both age-wise and with the looming threat of an otherworldly force), will their collective life experiences help them to save the world?

You know this show is going to be good because its executive producers are the Duffer Brothers. You know, the guys who created Stranger Things, only one of the best sci-fi shows of all time.

The Boroughs also has a class cast, starring everyone from Geena Davis to Alfred Molina to Alice Kremelberg.

If you needed more convincing, Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer (where the critics pen their harshest thoughts) has a near-perfect score of 96%.

The Critics Consensus says: ‘The Boroughs exudes excellence through its wonderfully plotted sci-fi trappings, star-studded cast, heartfelt narrative, and genuine ingenuity; a new classic through-and-through.

3. The WONDERfools: Limited Series —7,900,000 views

Back to South Korea now, and it’s all about The WONDERfools, a new action adventure series about a group of ‘awkward townies’ who unexpectedly gain superpowers and ‘fight villains threatening the peace of Haeseong city.’

The show also has something for those who love nostalgia, especially the aesthetic of the 90s and Y2K eras.

Set in 1999, it sees the arrival of the new millennium spark apocalyptic doom-mongering. All while serving the best period looks of the time.

Expect Oasis-esque jackets, grunge jumpers and space buns. Sold.

If the synopsis (and fashion) is not enough to convince you to watch The WONDERfools, let Rotten Tomatoes help.

With a 100% Tomatometer score and a 96% Popcornmeter (where the general audience shares their two cents), the show is literally almost perfect.

Screen Rant said that ‘not only do the fights look good, but characterisation and emotion are never sacrificed for the sake of action sequences.’

Elsewhere, Digital Mafia Talkies added: ‘Watching The WONDERfools right after enduring the final seasons of Stranger Things and The Boys felt like having a fresh glass of lemonade after being forced to eat gruel for years.’

2. Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine: Limited Series — 10,300,000 views

Netflix knows how to make a good heist show (Picture: Netflix)

OK, for those who don’t know, Berlin is a prequel to Money Heist, the 2017 Spanish heist crime drama that traces two long-prepared heists on the Royal Mint of Spain and the Bank of Spain.

The man behind the crimes? Andrés de Fonollosa, aka ‘Berlin.’

Berlin and the Jewels of Paris was the first prequel spin-off to the original show, released in 2023. It saw Berlin assemble a gang in the French capital before trying to steal €44 million worth of royal jewels across 34 cities in one afternoon.

Now, there’s a new series — and heist — in town, in the form of Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine.

In this offering, Berlin invites his gang to sunny Seville in Spain, where he reveals his latest grand plan: he wants to turn an ambitious duke into the victim of his own plan and steal a Da Vinci masterpiece. No biggie.

The show has been a major hit over on socials, with many hailing the cast as ‘perfect.’ In particular, they’re still loving Pedro Alonso who plays Berlin, with one fan joking that the show’s creators ‘should have made him say that he can steal not only our wallets but also our hearts.’

1. Nemesis: Season 1 – 11,400,000 views

And at number one, it’s the first season of Nemesis, a brand new American crime drama about an LAPD cop, Isaiah Stiles, who deals with robberies and homicides.

In this ultimate game of cat and mouse, Stiles finds himself stopping at nothing to take down Coltrane Wilder, a master thief and career criminal.

With a string of dangerous heists under his belt and a lifetime of crime as his experience, Wilder is a tough target to nail. Will Stiles’ own experience on the right side of the law, coupled with his determination, be enough?

After all, only one can come out on top.

Considering Nemesis is at number one (and enjoying its second week in the charts), it’s no surprise that the Rotten Tomatoes critics have said good things.

While the Tomatometer score isn’t as good as The WONDERfools or The Boroughs, it’s still achieved an impressive 86%.

The critics have said that Nemesis ‘thrives on intensely committed performances, well-executed action sequences, and the ability to entertain with an assured absurdity that doesn’t hinder its watchability.’

However, audience reviews are a little more mixed. Split almost down the middle at 52%, some viewers have said it’s ‘ridiculously entertaining,’ while others claim it’s ‘predictable’ and riddled with ‘inaccuracies.’

Our advice? Watch it for yourself and make up your own mind.
