One of the biggest names in the history of high school baseball in the San Fernando Valley has stepped down.
Sierra Canyon coach Tom Meusborn announced Thursday that he has resigned, according to a post on the school’s Instagram account.
Meusborn, 65, told the Los Angeles Times that he has retired as a head coach, but he might continue as an assistant coach.
He has 774 coaching wins, including a record of 74-40-2 at Sierra Canyon since he took over the program in 2023.
Meusborn won a record eight CIF LA City Section championships and two national championships, in 2003 and 2024, during a career that started in 1990.
His eight City Section championships, all of them won at Chatsworth, are the most by any coach. He was the head coach at Chatsworth for 27 years. He took a break from being a high school coach to serve as an assistant coach at Cal State Northridge in 2015.
Sierra Canyon finished this season 24-7 overall and went 13-4 in the Mission League. The Trail Blazers were eliminated from the Division 1 playoffs with an 8-0 loss to Cypress in the third round of pool play.
