The cause of death of wrestling icon Hulk Hogan has been confirmed, almost a year after he died.
Real name Terry Gene Bollea, the WWE Hall of Fame star died at the age of 71 on July 24, 2025.
At the time, it was reported that he had suffered a medical emergency at his home in Clearwater, Florida.
Soon after, it was revealed that the cause of death was a heart attack – following a history of atrial fibrillation, which is a heart condition that results in an irregular and often rapid heart rate.
On Friday, June 5, 2026, the Clearwater police announced that they had officially closed the investigation after an extensive review of evidence, witness statements, and Hogan’s medical records.
The 72-page report concludes that there was no evidence of foul play or criminal wrongdoing.
The investigation explored concerns raised in the aftermath of Hogan’s death, including those expressed by his occupational therapist, Justin McCamey.
McCamey had reportedly said that he believed Hogan may have been the victim of medical malpractice after a previous medical procedure by another surgeon.
He described Hogan as being in ‘very poor health’ since having surgery.
However, examiners found nothing untoward in Hogan’s death.
In this month’s report, investigators wrote: ‘Following an exhaustive review of the statements, medical records, surveillance footage from within the residence, and a visual inspection of Mr. Bollea’s body, there has been no evidence to indicate the death of Terry Bollea was anything other than natural.
The department went on to thank Hogan’s family -wife Sky Daly and children Nick and Brooke – for their co-operation in the investigation.
It continued: ‘Through the course of the investigation, there has been no evidence to indicate any criminal wrongdoing related to his death.’
‘Their willingness to allow our investigators access to very personal information, at a time when they were grieving and struggling, was extremely helpful. We would not have had the legal justification to obtain much of the information without their cooperation,’ the department said.
Records seen by the New York Post previously stated that Hogan had a history of leukemia CLL – a type of cancer which affects white blood cells.
His death came only a month after it was revealed that he had undergone a major heart operation in June.
‘Hulk had pretty serious heart surgery a few weeks ago and was doing well afterward,’ an insider told US Weekly at the time.
Soon after news of Hogan’s death was confirmed, his peers and co-stars rushed to social media to share their tributes.
WWE’s official X account also tweeted: ‘WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away.
‘One of pop culture’s most recognisable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s.
Soon after, Hogan’s wife took to Instagram to pay tribute to her husband, sharing a picture of her kissing him on the cheek.
‘He had been dealing with some health issues, but I truly believed we would overcome them. I had so much faith in his strength. I thought we still had more time,’ the 47-year-old said.
‘This loss is sudden and impossible to process. To the world, he was a legend… but to me, he was my Terry. The man I loved. My partner. My heart.’
She continued: ‘Hulk loved his fans so much and despite his growing physical discomfort, he did everything he could to show up, sign autographs, take photos, and connect with the people who supported him through it all. You meant everything to him,’ she continued.
‘He was a believer in Christ, and I take comfort knowing his soul is at peace and he’s been welcomed home.
‘Please keep his family and all of us who loved him in your prayers as we try to navigate this new reality.’
