Former U.S. Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who was President Trump’s first choice for U.S. Attorney General, announced today on social media that he’s “returning to public service” in Florida.
As seen below in a letter written by Daniel Perez, Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, Gaetz has been appointed to serve as a member of the Triumph Gulf Coast, Inc. Board of Directors.
Triumph Gulf Coast, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that “oversees the expenditure of 75 percent of all funds recovered by the Florida attorney general for economic damages to the state that resulted from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.”
[NOTE: Gaetz’s father, Florida State Senator Don Gaetz, was an original member and Chair of Triumph Gulf Coast’s Board from 2018-2022.]
Appointments to the seven-member Board of Triumph Gulf Coast, Inc., are made by the Governor (Ron DeSantis), the Attorney General (James Uthmeier), the Chief Financial Officer (State Sen. Blaise Ingoglia), the President of the Senate (Ben Albritton), and the Speaker of the House (Perez).
Matt Gaetz will join the current members of the board, which includes two real estate developers, an owner of a small container vessels trading company, an owner of several Culligan Water franchises, and an owner of a construction/engineering company. His term begins July 1, 2026 and ends June 30, 2030.
