Chelsea are looking for a new left-back after Marc Cucurella’s departure for Real Madrid and have a Premier League star on their radar.

The Spanish giants signed Cucurella early in the summer, bringing in the Spain international for €60 million (£52m).

That leaves a hole to fill in the squad of incoming manager Xabi Alonso, with Jorrel Hato the remaining option at left-back.

Swedish publication Expressen report that Leeds full-back Gabriel Gudmundsson is admired at Stamford Bridge and a target to replace Cucurella.

The 27-year-old has only been at Leeds for a year, signing from Lille in the summer of 2025, but he enjoyed an excellent first season in the Premeir League.

The Yorkshire club were impressive in staying up after promotion from the Championship and Gudmundsson was a hit at left wing-back.

The deal cost Leeds just over £10m to bring the Swede in from Lille, where he had spent four seasons and made over 100 Ligue 1 appearances.

Leeds would not want to lose Gudmundsson, but would be in line to make a hefty profit on him if a deal with Chelsea could be done.

The 26-cap Sweden international has three years to run on his contract at Elland Road, so the Blues would have to spend big to tempt Leeds into a sale.

Gudmundsson is currently at the World Cup with Sweden and could see his value rise if Graham Potter’s side can progress into the knockout stages and shine there.

It has been a rollercoaster two games for the Swedes so far, battering Tunisia 5-1 in their opener only to receive a battering by the same scoreline from Netherlands in their second outing.

They now face Japan on Friday with their hopes of reaching the last 32 in the balance as they will likely need a point to progress.

Gudmundsson is far from the only player Chelsea are looking at this summer as yet another rebuild gets underway under another new manager.

A deal has been agreed with Atalanta for Italy international Marco Palestra, a right sided full-back or wing-back.

Chelsea have agreed a €57 million (£49.1m) transfer fee plus an additional €3m (£2.5m) in add-ons, while Atalanta also have a 10 per cent sell-on clause.

It looks likely to be yet another summer of big spending in west London.
