Londoners can use hire bikes for free every Sunday this July – here’s how

Londoners will be able to take advantage of free bike hire every Sunday of July, Transport for London (TfL) has announced.

Cyclists will be able to hire both push bikes and e-bikes for unlimited 60-minute rides on Sundays this month under the scheme.

Every weekend, offer codes will be available to be redeemed in either the Santander Cycles app or at any docking station.

Riders should simply select a day pass, usually priced at £3.50, and then enter the code for that week.

All customers will need to use a bank code or their mobile phone to take advantage of a free cycle.

Rides exceeding 60 minutes will incur an additional charge of £1.65 for each additional hour on pedal bikes or £3 for e-bikes.

The codes are only available to registered members, but membership is free, and anyone can sign up online or through the app. Each code can be redeemed once per person.

Will Norman, the mayor of London’s Walking and Cycling Commissioner, said: ‘Cycling is a fantastic way to get around London, especially now that we’ve grown our Cycleways network by nearly five times, helping people of all abilities to cycle safely across the capital.

‘The Mayor and I encourage everyone – especially those new to cycling – to take up these free Sunday bike rides and to use our cycle routes to travel around our great city as we continue building a safer, greener, better London for all.’

In a bid to further encourage cycling across the capital, TfL is investing £94.8million on cycleways across the capital by March 2027.
