Ports of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 are out now on PlayStation, and they’re bizarrely cheaper than the Xbox versions.
Developer Treyarch announced last month that PlayStation ports of Call Of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 would launch sometime in July, and now they’re officially here.
The ports, available across PlayStation 4 and 5, include the single-player, multiplayer, and Zombies modes. However, they don’t come with any DLC (these are locked behind season passes) or any graphical updates – so you’re basically playing the same games from 2010 and 2012.
The biggest kicker is the price. Each game costs £34.99 separately on the PlayStation Store, and if you want all the DLC, the season pass for each costs £25.99. In other words, if you want both games and all their DLC, it will set you back a whopping £121.96.
To take some of the sting out of these prices, PS Plus members can get a 50% discount on both games until August 6, which brings each title down to £17.49. Similarly, each season pass is 67% off for PS Plus subscribers, bringing them down to £8.57 each.
The original prices line-up with the Xbox versions of Black Ops 1 and 2, which were already available on Xbox Series X/S via Xbox backwards compatibility. However, these PS Plus discounts haven’t translated to the Xbox store, so right now, it’s cheaper to buy Black Ops 1 and 2 on PlayStation over Xbox, despite the fact that Microsoft owns Activision.

Regardless of the PS Plus discount though, some fans are understandably not happy with the price. ‘Doing this for games that are almost 20 years old is crazy but not surprising given the fandom,’ one X user wrote. ‘I’m honestly impressed!’
‘$40 for 15 year old ports is diabolical,’ another wrote. ‘Yeah I know it’s Black Ops but c’mon son.’
If you’re holding out for a version on Switch, don’t get your hopes up. According to Call Of Duty site CharlieIntel, a version on Nintendo’s console isn’t ‘planned’, although it’s unclear if this could change in the future.
However, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will come to Nintendo Switch 2 when it launches on October 23, 2026, alongside the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC versions.
