All 12 seasons of a hit American crime drama renowned for its sizzling chemistry is now streaming on Netflix in the UK.

Starring David Boreanaz (Angel of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame) and Emily Deschanel, the show had viewers hooked for over a decade.

Based on characters from Kathy Reichs’ series of books, Boreanaz plays FBI agent Seeley Booth, who’s teamed with author and forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan to investigate some of the country’s grisliest crimes.

When they’re not simmering at each other in a several-series-long will they/won’t they arc (you’ll just have to watch to find out), that is.

Temperance’s expertise in analysing skeletal remains earns her the moniker ‘Bones’ – and this TV show its title too.

Bones’ passionate fanbase is much of the reason the series lasted as long as it did, contributing to an overall score of 84% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

This included user Jeandré T, who described it as ‘the best show EVER,’ and isa e, who praised its ‘great chemistry and interesting storylines.’

Highlighting its great performances, one unnamed Rotten Tomatoes user called it an ‘amazing crime-solving show.’

Meanwhile, on Twitter, No-Name said that it was ‘entertaining all the way to the end,’ while The_Victoriah asserted that they had been ‘glued to Netflix’ since discovering the programme.

During its time, Bones also scored positive reviews from professional critics, including the Charlotte Observer, who called it ‘sexy, clever, meaty.’

Sacramento Bee described it as ‘witty, layered, and sometimes spunky and prickly,’ like its co-lead, Brennan.

‘A smart, dark, and flirty drama that deserves a wide sampling,’ said Denver Post.

In the years after the show ended, Boreanaz has expressed his surprise at it finding a new, younger audience.

‘These two younger girls were there for a fashion show, literally like 10 years old and 12,’ he told People in 2024.

‘Their mom was there, and she said they were just so excited I was there because they love Bones, and I’m just sitting there going, “This is so trippy!”‘

Elsewhere in the interview, he reflected on Bones’ ‘character-driven’ nature, and what set it apart from other crime dramas.

‘You have to have it be character-driven. You have to be talking over dead forensic bodies, cracking jokes.

‘You have to be in tune with each other. And we created something special.’

Meanwhile, Deschanel – older sister of actress Zooey – shared her thoughts in advance of her podcast Boneheads, which she hosts with co-star Carla Gallo.

‘There’s a group of people who will watch it over and over again and then rewatch from the beginning. So it’s exciting that it has longevity and is still relevant after almost 20 years,’ she told People.

When pressed on the idea of a sequel or follow-up series, Gallo – who played Daisy Wick on the show – joked: ‘I’ll do it today. I’m available!’
