Lego’s version of the original Star Trek Enterprise bridge looks authentically 60s

The latest Lego Star Trek set recreates the bridge from The Original Series, complete with eight super cute minifigures and lots of Tribbles.

Sci-fi fans have been well served by Lego lately, with the evergreen Star Wars themed joined by a recently unveiled set based on 90s classic The X-Files. Last year we got the first ever Lego Star Trek set, with a giant-sized model of the Enterprise-D from The Next Generation. And now the Enterprise from The Original Series is having its time in the sun, albeit with a very different kind of set.

Rather than the outside of the ship, the new set is based on the bridge of the original USS Enterprise NCC-1701, recreating the familiar layout from the 60s TV show and featuring no less than eight all-new minifigures.

Not only that but you get a bunch of Tribbles, authentic-looking phasers and communicators, and Spock’s harp and Vulcan lirpa (the staff-like weapon used during the pon farr mating ritual). Plus, as well as the bridge, it also includes the transporter room, including ‘working’ transporter pads.

The whole thing is basically a Trekkie’s brick-based dream, with the captain’s chair able to rock backwards and forwards, to simulate the ship being under attack. The turbo lift doors at the back of the bridge open via a hidden lever (you’ll have to make the ‘woosh’ noise yourself), and there’s the viewscreen with an Original Series version of a Klingon on it.

The transporter room features a dial you turn to teleport the minifigures, while the whole layout is filled with authentically 60s looking computer stations, controls, and background details.

The eight minifigures are Captain Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Sulu, McCoy, Chekov, Nurse Chapel, and Scotty – all authentically detailed and able to hold any of the props.

The presence of Chekov marks the set as taking place during the third and final season of the show but there are lots of details and references to individual episodes, such as a fencing rapier for Sulu (from the first season episode The Naked Time), dilithium crystals for Scotty (from just about every other episode), and four different Tribbles.

The model is made up of 1,701 Lego pieces and measures 57cm wide, 34cm deep, and 9cm high in its default configuration. The whole design is modular, so you can rearrange it however you want, especially in terms of the viewscreen and transporter room, to fit in with wherever you’re displaying it.

The set (#11385) costs £159.99 in the UK and will go on sale from September 1. It’ll be available at retail stores and the Lego website, where you can pre-order it from today.

September is also the 60th anniversary of Star Trek as a whole, which is why the set is launching then. With two sets already, hopefully it won’t be long before more are revealed, from the long and storied history of the franchise.
