Mary Kate Golding, the set decorator behind hit shows including The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Goosebumps and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, has died aged 34 after she was fatally stabbed in her New York home.
Police discovered Golding with a stab wound to her back after responding to a 911 call reporting an assault at her apartment in Astoria, Queens, shortly after midnight on Tuesday.
Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
In a statement, the NYPD said: ‘On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at approximately 0024 hours, police responded to a 911 call of an assault i‘‘‘‘‘nside of 18-64 41 Street, within the confines of the 114 Precinct.
‘Upon arrival, officers observed a 34-year-old female victim with a stab wound to the back. EMS responded and pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.’
Just hours later, police were called to nearby Astoria Park, where an unconscious man was found.
The NYPD said officers responded at approximately 6.39am and discovered an unidentified man, believed to be aged between 30 and 35, unresponsive inside the park. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Multiple US media outlets have identified the man as Golding’s husband, Joseph Azzaretto, reporting that he died by hanging and that investigators are treating the deaths as a suspected murder-suicide.
Police have not publicly confirmed his identity or announced a motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The couple’s baby son was found inside the family home but was unharmed, according to reports.
Golding had built an impressive career in film and television after graduating from New York University.

She was due to work on director Sean Durkin’s upcoming film Deep Cuts and had amassed an extensive list of credits across both television and film.
As well as The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, she worked on Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer, Full Circle, Extrapolations, Hawkeye, Marry Me, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
Her career began as an assistant on 2017’s acclaimed romantic comedy The Big Sick, before she went on to work across productions including Gotham, The Flight Attendant, Lisey’s Story, Cruise, Deception, and Time After Time.
The tragedy comes after another shocking incident in Joseph Azzaretto’s family years earlier.
According to the New York Post, his father, Frank Azzaretto, who worked in the art department on productions including Daredevil and Unforgettable, was fatally shot by Joseph’s younger brother, Nicholas, during a domestic dispute in 2020.
Nicholas later pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 years’ probation after court proceedings heard allegations that the shooting followed years of abusive behaviour by his father.
The NYPD investigation into Golding’s death remains ongoing.
