The Los Angeles Fire Department today identified a department crew member who was killed in an off-duty crash on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway.
The crew member was identified as Stan Reza, according to a department Facebook post. Reza, 35, was a three-year member of the department. His city of residence was not provided.
The crash was reported about 2:20 a.m. Friday on the northbound 605 Freeway near Beverly Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol, which is investigating. The pickup truck Reza was driving collided with a big rig.
Reza died at the scene from blunt traumatic injuries in an accident, the Medical Examiner’s office revealed Saturday.
“Our thoughts are with the firefighter’s family and with every member of this department who is grieving alongside them,” LAFD Chief Jaime Moore said. “The department asked the public and media to keep the members, family, friends and fellow firefighters in their thoughts.”
Service and memorial arrangements will be shared once finalized, officials said.
